Irish Open online qualifiers start next week

ONLINE QUALIFIERS START AUG. 13 FOR 2008 IRISH OPEN POKER TOURNEY

Euro 3 million prize-pool underwritten by Paddy Poker.com

Online poker firm Paddy Power Poker.com has announced a whopping Euro 1 million increase in its guarantee for the 2008 Irish Open poker tournament, for which on line qualifiers commence August 13.

The 2008 event sees the Irish Open expand with an increased buy-in of Euro 4 200 + Euro 300 registration fee, capacity for 1 000 players, and a Euro 3 million guaranteed prize pool.

Online qualification will begin on Paddy Power Poker.com on Monday, August 13, with a full schedule of daily feeders to a fortnightly grand final satellite.

A record-breaking field of 708 players played in the unique Dublin event in 2007 for over Euro 2.3 million in prize money, including World Series of Poker champions Dan Harrington and Carlos Mortensen. Last year's event was won by Northern Irish player Marty Smyth who lifted the Terry Rogers trophy, taking home Euro 650 000, after a tough heads-up battle with Roland De Wolfe.

Top players crowded the starting ranks in the 2007 event, and a similar demand for seats by the planet's top players is expected to again be a feature of the 2008 spectacular, billed as one of Europe's top poker tournaments. To accommodate the growing orders for tickets, the 2008 Irish Open will be split into two day ones, allowing for a capacity of 1 000 players.

Further details of the 2008 Irish Poker Open will be released in the coming weeks, and information is available on www.irishpokeropen.com, which will carry updates on qualification, venue, side events, betting, offline satellites, and other pertinent detail.
