First Online Poker Room to Close Its Doors

Planet Poker has decided to cease real money games effective March 31st. They were the first online poker room.

I'm surprised they're still around.

Planet Poker, the longest running and most trusted Internet cardroom, will be suspending real money operations effective 31 March 2007. Management sincerely regrets making this decision but it has become impossible for a small cardroom to properly service their customers due to the changes caused by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in the U.S.

It's their own fault, not the UIGEA. They've had all these years to grow beyond a "Small Cardroom", but didn't take advantage of it.

You are exactly right. It seems none of the first rooms did well in the long run.

Planet Poker - Closes March 31st.

Delta Poker - Now a basically homeless skin of ACR. It has gone from Indy to the now closed YPN Network to Dobrosoft to Ongame and now who knows. I would be shocked if they had more then 5 players at any given time on their skin.

Paradise Poker - After banning US players their traffic went down the toilet. Sporting Bet has now decided to integrate it into the Boss Network at a massive charge on the books. For a while Paradise was the #1 online room but they got arrogant. Even before banning US players they had dropped a bunch in traffic but were slowly coming back.

Poker Spot - Dutch Boyd "allegedly" stole massive amounts of money from players before closing room abruptly. One player is still owed $55,000. If he did not steal it himself he was offered enough to pay everyone back for the software but he refused to do so. He claims he will pay back players if he wins a bracelet at WSOP. He did but has not paid anyone at all claiming he owed the winnings to other people. They had the first tournament software but it was obviously all a scam to begin with.

Dutch's brother posted on RGP a while ago that Pokerspot was now open source. And free for anyone to use.

He did the same at 2+2. Quite ironic that they would not sell the software to help their players and save their reputation trying to hold out and years later it is free to have.
