According to pokersitescout.com, the top five are

    Party
    Stars
    Fulltilt
    Paradise
    PokerRoom

Party used to be far-and-away the biggest site, but Stars is closing the gap. The most recent 24hr peak showed Party with over 14K, Stars at 9500, and Fulltilt at 3500. These numbers include real-money ring games only, they do not include tournaments or sngs, or playmoney tables.

I hope any pokerroom would come along and knock Party/Empire off their arrogrant feet. I remember when Paradise Poker thought they was untouchable. Ha!

Stars has chosen an interesting marketing strategy. They have virtually no affilates, don't do rake-back, and offer nothing besides poker. You will never see them in any "recommended" or "certified" section of any review website - because they don't pay affiliates for reviews - or for much of anything, to my understanding.

Yet they're the second biggest site out there, and they seem to be closing the gap against Party.

Stars pays affiliates only a 1 time CPA for new players. This makes rakeback impossible. I'm sure this is part of why they have the most player friendly rake in the industry.

Thanks for the info. I used to think Stars didn't do affiliate payments at all, but I eventually stumbled across a site that did promote them (although not as much as other rooms).

I don't know if their policy helps or hurts them, but I suspect in the long-term, they might have chosen wisely.
