Moneybookers Rebranding Their Company to Skrill

Just found out today that the online transaction method Moneybooker will soon be known as Skrill- http://corporate.skrill.com/news_dir...Skrill'_78

Not sure how many of you use this as a payment method for gaming but it will be making a lot of changes according to the company and I thought you all should be aware of them.

Interesting post, but agreed.. terrible new name. Whoever decided on the change was probably indulging in the 4th definition of the word here:

I honestly don't think it's a good business move at all. Going from Moneybookers to Skrill is like taking a giant step backwards. Everyone remembers a name like Moneybookers but noone it going to remember Skrill because most of us have never even heard that before.

It's the kind of word I could imagine Chavs from Liverpool using.

Not the kind of imagine i'd want to be associated with!

What a crap name! Why do they need to change anything? I am quite happy with Moneybookers as they are.

It sounds like a combo of Shill, Shank, and Scam (skam).
None inspire confidence in money handlers.

Terrible name. For as much money as these processors make they should at least consult a marketing/pr firm before rebranding.

Skrill it's a short, simple to spell, catchy business name

They say "The new name is set to become shorthand for a safe and innovative way for customers to shop online.."

Probably the reason behind the rebrand is MB's intention to expand its business beyond its traditional activities, which are transfer money AND promoting gambling sites
