Online gambling is Britain's fastest-growing pastime

Online gambling is Britain's fastest-growing pastime

BRITAIN has seen a 40 per cent rise in internet gambling in the past year, research showed Monday.

An additional 3.2 million people logged on to gambling websites last year, compared with only 2.2 million more who accessed social networking sites such as Facebook and its near-rivals, said market research group Nielsen.

Online poker sites were particularly successful. Partypoker.com pulled in an extra 870,000 visitors last year, increasing its audience by 174 percent. Partycasino.com, a smaller site, grew by 360 percent last year.

Nielsen said almost half of all online gamblers earn more than £30,000 ($49,717).

Women comprise 46 per cent of online gamblers - many of the estimated 2000 gambling websites employ "female friendly" pink color schemes and other gimmicks thought to appeal to women, such as gambling horoscopes.

Yeah I heard about this too It is certainly good news to affiliates but it is also good for players too since the jackpots will grow that much faster I suppose. It's insane to think that online gambling is bigger in the UK than social networking sites like Facebook. At least that's what they are saying.

Women of today acquire a great percentage in online casinos since they are the one who were always at home. and when daily chores are finished there's nothing else to do but watch a TV series, go to the mall which is not advisable if there are kids taking a nap on the afternoons or go online.

Are people trying to beat the recession by gambling their way out of debt. It certainly is tempting.

The big jackpots certainly are a lot more appealing since more and more people could use the extra cash. As long as we don't spend too much on trying to hit them every month it's nice to have the chance of hitting a big one
