Online legalization bill hinges on backing from Harry Reid

Online legalization bill hinges on backing from Harry Reid

The three Nevadans in the House of Representatives are rallying to support the legalization of Internet gaming.

But without the support of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., who has remained silent on the issue, their efforts may be futile.

"He's the linchpin," Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., said. "He will be the decider when it comes to Internet gaming."

A legalization bill, introduced by Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., and co-sponsored by Berkley, passed the House Financial Services Committee in a 41-22 vote last week.

Internet gaming has been illegal since 2006, when Congress passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

Internet Gambling Legalization Bid Seen as Long Shot

A movement to legalize online poker and other forms of non-sports betting cleared a major hurdle when a key bill passed the House Financial Services Committee July 28.
But final passage of the measure is still being viewed on Capitol Hill as a crap shoot at best. "This is, by no means, a sure thing," said a senior staffer on the financial services committee. "In fact, I'd call it a long shot."

That's because the window to get anything passed is quickly closing. Congress is set to take a seven-week recess, leaving a two-week window in late September before the session breaks

Hiya; He is up for Re Election. So, Vote to make On Line Gambling, Legal, In the state that is land based casino Dominated, and those casino's are suffering, So lets give them even more compitition on the internet........

It would be a different story if all/most of the B&M Casino's were going to be running the show, and getting extra revenue, without losing tourist. But so far, no one really believes "Land based & internet based" that you can have your cake, and eat it too".

Nevada has talked about this many times before. For many many years, and even before UIGEA, and It has never come close to passing. As a Player, Our efforts are better spent at getting existing casinos on the internet, that service players in America, to do a better job it.
"All I want, is to WIN my fair share, and maybe just a teeny bit more"

I read this fall too for a vote but seems too quick. Maybe it will be bundled into some other legislation which is OK with me.

Thumbs down I hope it doesn't pass

If it passes and the U.S. Government gets involved you can bet that it will include an array of costly programs and regulation and they will screw things up.

I don't want them involved. It should be left up to the individual states.

They could license an oneline casino company and allow citizens of their state to play.

Big government versus state government? I trust my State much more and have more influence over the Legislature.
