Uncle Sam Grabs the Cash & Minnesota Blinks: APCW Perspectives 06/12/09

This week, J. Todd discusses (among other things) the good news out of Minnesota and the U.S. Department of Justice's decision to seize the money of poker players from two payment processors.

On Monday, Minnesota dropped its bid to have ISPs block online gaming sites from Minnesota residents. Minnesota's Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division changed course as part of a settlement it reached with iMEGA, and as a result of political pressure it faced from the Poker Players Alliance and poker players in the state.

Late last week, we learned that all these checks with poker players' winnings that were bouncing in the U.S. were a result of Department of Justice ordering the seizure of about $33 million from two payment processors. The processors were used by Full Tilt, PokerStars and Absolute Poker. The PPA, which played major role in bringing these actions to light, has vowed to fight this in court if necessary.
