PartyGaming to pay DoJ $1billion??
If this hold true, the DoJ has hit the motherload! Intimidate, coerce and extort ...... And I won't even get started on the 'past crimes' comment.
ONLINE GAMING BETTING BIG ON $1B PAYOFF By PAUL THARP May 31, 2008 -- A $1 billion bet is said to be on the table for the Department of Justice to forgive the past crimes of an online gambling company, opening the door to a new Internet gold rush. Rumors swirled yesterday on two continents that an unprecedented settlement was in the works between the Department of Justice and one of the world's leading online-gaming empires, PartyGaming Plc, to forgive illegal betting made online in the US prior to a 2006 law banning it here. Shares of the London-listed company shot up 10 percent, as did stocks in other online betting companies in Europe and elsewhere. Such firms are outlawed here. Industry sources said the rumored settlement - nearly two years in the making - would be a surprising breakthrough, but also very expensive, costing as much as $1 billion by one estimate. "If there's a settlement it will involve a huge number," said one .....

As much as I dislike Party Gaming, their proactive suck-up actions were pretty smart, because they will likely be seen as a responsible company in the eyes of the US once regulation and common sense start to gain momentum.
