    Neteller + Identify Theft

It looks like some folks in Canada can thank Neteller for getting their Identities stolen.

I must be getting old and my reading comprehension has deteriorated, but I had a hard time following that story.

    But from this:
Wiens says it now appears that a criminal used his name, address, phone number, age, and a bogus bank account number to open an account with Neteller over the telephone last December.
It sounds as if that gentleman's pertinent info was first stolen (from where? how?) and was then used to open a NETeller account.
Alice: But I don't want to go among mad people.
The Cat: Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.

Neteller sold bogus collection contracts to a collection agency.

I find that very very odd as Neteller was unable to grant credit inside the UK, US or Canada, so if they were not able to grant credit... How did all these people owe Neteller money?

Note: Neteller has now made their Privacy policies and Terms and conditions so that people from the US and Canada are unable to view them.

It totally blows my mind that anyone still uses Neteller... But I guess it is just like some folks that still insist on making a deposit at a Rouge Casino when they know the casino is Rouge...

Edited to delete first paras, written whilst mind in neutral LOL!!!

200 *collections* for an identical $822.75 in the same Canadian region....out of a batch of 1 600? That sounds a little strange as well, and the collection agency's explanation doesn't convince me.

I'll refer this to Neteller (I never give up despite their notorious bad communications system LOL!!!) I'm sure that it will get through to someone who can action this, even if they don't have the courtesy to respond in public.

Not sleighting you at all Lots0 - I want to make that clear - thanks for finding this interesting piece despite my reservations. Your point regarding Neteller's withdrawal from Canada is well made, too.

I am wondering why the Isle of Man and UK FSA are simply looking the other way while this goes on, perhaps it is because it does not involve UK or EU customers.

No problem, I didn't take it that way at all.

I'll be the first to admit that I have a tendency to be a judgmental out spoken prick.
