It's probably since Vegas has one of the highest suicide rates in the US.

Last time I was in Vegas it was all lit up like it would stand forever. I told a cabbie about the first time I went there as we passed by and he said, 'that was back when the mob was running things'. uncomfortable laugh.... silence.

The movie I thought of when I saw Stardust coming down was 'The Cooler' and Baldwin's missive on the strip compared to downtown, '..all painted up like a whore... now this casino is a lady!' or something like that. Classic lines and important stuff in that movie about 'the end of an era'.

There are still a few places downtown where an 'advantage player' would not want to ply his skills. And it gets a little wierd between 3 and 6am to walk on Freemont during the week. But all in all I'm glad there is still a bit of the old in Vegas and I never miss downtown even if I'm 'living it up' on the strip.

Not that Stardust was 'downtown', just saying.

Vegas, and the whole b&m world (macau et al) is changing much faster than the casual observer (me) would have thought.

Look at MGM's plans on the strip, it's like they are going to make LV into a real city. Murren is a genius in that respect, looking at his tenure.


I'm looking forward to the day that I can take my players card from any B&M and validate for online play, and viceversa. I don't really see it going back to the 'glory days' for US players.

As you know I was a big fan of the Stardust. It was one of my Comp Stations. I was there right before it closed. When I checked out I left my phone charger in the room. I went back late the next night to see if it was turned in. The night manager took me back up to the room. It had not been rented but rather the whole floor had already been closed. Time was close.

The charger wasn't there. We headed into the service elevator and down into the bowels to check with housekeeping. On the way down, she told me how she had started as a Showgirl many years before. No phone charger in lost and found - nor in house keeping; I listened as maintenance and housekeeping folk bantered with the manger. They seemed family. They radioed the supervisor responsible for my floor but no luck.

One person took me to a cage and dug through a box of old phone chargers and pulled out a couple that fit my phone. "Take these he said". Ghosts from the past.

On the way back to the main floor I asked the Manager if her showgirl pictures graced the walls anywhere. She smiled and told me to look for her in the Souvenir Book. It was a nice tour - nice company.

When I got home I found my charger in my bag. It was never lost at all.
