E-Finance & Payments Law & Policy

E-Finance & Payments Law & Policy is organizing a Special Briefing: EU Legal Compliance Issues with Prepaid Cards.

The Briefing will be held on the 27th March 2007 at the London offices of
Sidley Austin.

Prepaid Cards were the fastest growing part of the European card market in
2006. The growth rates for prepaid cards are forecast to increase
significantly exceeding 110% per annum over the next five years with 2.3
billion transactions and ¤75 billion in turnover by 2010.

The number of applications for prepaid cards is also increasing moving from
gift cards to now include, for example, payroll, pensions and benefit cards,
lost luggage cards and insurance payment cards.

To take advantage of this emerging and exciting market in the EU requires a
clear understanding of a large number of different legal and compliance
issues which apply to prepaid cards.

Together with lawyers from the international law firm Sidley Austin, who
have worked on significant EU and international prepaid card projects, as
well as other industry participants this briefing will consider the relevant
legal and compliance issues applying to the prepaid card market in the EU
and using worked examples will explain practical approaches in dealing with
the main issues which include:

1. Licensing

2. Anti-Money Laundering

3. Consumer Protection

4. Data Protection

5. Future Developments
