Google, Yahoo to ban gambling??
I found this article and can't figure out what it means or even if it's credible so I wanted to post it here for your perusal. Google and Yahoo already ban pay per click gambling ads. What sort of "casino advertisements" could they mean? They mention here something about pop-ups and minors. Pop-ups? Minors? WTF?
If this is some foreshadowing that Google is going to purge all gaming content, then that's bretty big news but this "source" could just be a retard making noise as well. I guess I need help deciphering this one. Anyone heard anything about this? Google Set to Remove Online Gambling Advertisements 24-01-07 Casino advertisements on the giant search engine Google could be a thing of the past following a decision by Google HQ currently being reported in marketing media. The reason behind the decision is reportedly that Google and its rival Yahoo! have allegedly been warned off by the US Justice Department authorities for promoting gambling indirectly to an underage audience through advertising pop-ups. The voluntary decision applies only to the United States in the case of Yahoo!, where Justice officials have been exercising a major crackdown on all aspects of Internet gambling. However, it is understood that Google plans to extend the ban globally. The news follows hot on the heels of reports that the US Justice Department is to order banks in the UK to hand over information concerning their dealings with several online poker sites. It seems apparent that the Department of Justice is targeting online sites that trade their stock publicly on the London Stock Exchange, such as PartyGaming and 888 Holdings. Another article about it:
http://www.onlinecasino.org/news/cas...oogle-1500.php and http://www.onlinecasinonews.com/ocnv...e.asp?id=12673 If the latter is true, the DoJ definitely had a voice in the matter, strong arming Yahoo & Google. I'm sure we'll hear more about it today. If this is true: For them to ban online gambling searches, but not porn searches is a DISGRACE. They cite "underage" people being led to gambling by popups. What about these "underage" people being led to PORN via popups? Which is more common? You decide. One is just as bad as another. Oops, maybe I shouldn't give them anymore ideas. Or how about these pedophiles searching for illegal child porn sites? Why aren't they doing about searches for keywords such as those? As it is now, they only remove a listing if it's reported for having illegal content.

All these 'stories' are attributed to a story in "marketing media" there is no source other than that given.
I have searched all the google sources for infomation on this, I also contacted some rather high up folks at google... This story is bull shit. For the record: Google and Yahoo both received notice from the US DOJ waaaaay back in 2004, to stop showing gambling ads, both companies stopped accecpting online gambling ads right after that. Once in awhile some SEO figures out how to bate and switch google adwords or Yahoo Publisher so their casino ad will show for a while, but as soon as google or Yahoo spots it (in a few days) the ads are pulled.

The author didn't seem to have a very good grasp the web either. How would Google ban "pop-ups" (a task for browsers) and why are popups more culpable in corrupting youth than say, a banner ad? Yes, I think bullshit is right. |

I thought google's policy has been (for some time) that gambling advertisements are ok as long as it's not an ad for a site that directly has live wagering. Example: How to beat Blackjack, would be acceptable. Yahoo is a bit inconsistent, but I think their general policy is always no gambling. But again, they are inconsistent. Sometimes I will submit a link on Y Search Marketing that is rejected as "gambling site", but if I wait a couple of days and resubmit the identicle link & description it will be approved. It seems like it just depends on who is reviewing it.
