Internet wagering allowed in the U.S.

Adding a little bit of data to the arguments against prohibiting internet wagering in the US. Casinomeister has a very good fact sheet on the subject which lacks a little. The fact sheet comments to the hypocracy of legal parimutual wagering which takes place via phone and asks "But whats up with the internet?".

Nothing is up with the internet. Visit a site call TVG.COM to find out more.

This is a site which caters to the horse racing industry. From this site I can bet at two dozen or more race tracks across the US from my computer here in Kentucky. Furthermore, the site is fully supported by a cable television network (TVG Network) that allows me to watch live, the races I bet on.

LOL - it certainly illustrates the meaning of horse racing industry carve-outs in proposed American banning legislation! What a dishonest farce the US move to ban is.

QUOTE: Available in over 18 million homes nationwide, TVG Network is the leading sports television network that combines the excitement of live horseracing from premier U.S. racetracks and the convenience of in-home, account wagering. In addition to live horseracing, TVG Network features commentary, interviews, in-depth race analysis, handicapping and wagering tutorials, and originally produced programming for racing’s major events. Viewers in certain areas can wager interactively on the races via telephone, the Internet or Interactive Television by establishing a wagering account online at www.TVG.com or by telephone at 1-888-PLAY TVG.

TVG, a subsidiary of Gemstar – TV Guide International, Inc., has exclusive agreements for television and interactive wagering with the following racetracks: Aqueduct, Arlington Park, Belmont Park, Calder, Churchill Downs, Del Mar, Ellis Park, Emerald Downs, Fair Grounds, Fairplex Park, Hollywood Park, Hoosier Park, Keeneland, Los Alamitos, Oak Tree at Santa Anita, Prairie Meadows, Ruidoso Downs, Saratoga Raceway, Saratoga Race Course, Turf Paradise, Turfway Park and Zia Park. Yes, TVG and another site is Xpressbet.com, which is affiliated with HRTV on cable television. I live in Maryland and have used both TVG and Xpressbet.com and placed bets on both the telephone and the internet.

Most of all, you can wager on international tracks....most recently, the Dubai World Cup, the world's richest race (this year it had a $6 million dollar purse)... and I used HRTV/Xpressbet to wager from the U.S.

Particularly after all the controversy over the Dubai Ports deal...

This is an interesting irony, but remember that the proposed bills all have some type of aspect relating to the horseracing industry that would make them an exception..

There are still carve-outs for Internet wagering on horse racing, fantasy sports and lotteries which gives the lie to any suggestions of moral outrage by these legislators. But presumably the anti-Bill folks are using this against the Goodlattes and Leachs of this world.

And it's going to take some fast footwork by the U.S. Trade Representative in relation to the WTO dispute.
