    Dear Meister..

I've been searching around via google etc trying to find a serious history of online gambling, from conception 'till now..

I've found more stuff about computer games than i care to read.Pacman, space invaders and so on.

Finding material regarding actual gambling, casino's,sportsbooks and bingo etc is more of a challenge.

Your industry discussion section is interesting but is in forum style obviously, scattered.

Where to go is my question.I've been at it for 3 days now and figured maybe i should ask.

You're gonna have to dig. Check with some of the older casinos (Intercasino, Sunny Group, etc.) and read their newsreleases which in many cases will be archived. That's a start. Some sites that have a lot of archived news (Casinowire.com for example) will help you out as well. I know their news is archived. To do research from the forum here will give you a headache since there is a lot of banter, but incorporating all three will give you a well-rounded idea of what a messy industry this is

    Amandajm,

You might want to start with books. Haywood's Beat Web Casinos, Balestra's Idiot's Guide to Online Gambling, and Anthony Cabot's I forget the name but it's expensive....are all good sources, with summaries of the history up to the date of publication.

It then becomes easier to look at the last two years of industry history as reflected in press releases, forum searches, and business web sites.

Don't be shy about starting topic threads either--as you assemble your history, what kinds of events are you looking for? Company foundings? Industry expansion? Court cases? Scandals? Significant changes in conduct, rules, definitions? When did the term "bonus abuser" come into use, when did credit cards cease to be used as deposit vehicles, when was the IGC founded?

    Mary,thankyou for talking to me.

I want to know it all.I've been called one too many names since i've come online.Naive being probably the nicest. I don't want to be naive and clueless, but what can one do?I figured maybe i should make the effort not to be so.I've nearly lost all the money i made from the horses anyway, pricewise(Melvyn Collier). So maybe it's too late to get clued up now.I would have carried on with that, but the bookies moved the goalposts.

I have actually started with landbased Casino's,rightly or wrongly..What do you think?

So far i have gathered there have been lots of fires plagueing gambling establishments over the last century..Insurance in a word..

What i will gain from learning about all this i don't really know.

Maybe all i'll get is a taste of one of them awful awful burgers. If so,then so be it.What the heck.

I love that casino, the one with the Awful Awful. Nugget in Reno. Good drinks service, lots of nickel machines...atmosphere all over.

Haywood's book is the place to start.

Could you point me in the right direction as to where to get the book you mention please?

    Can't find it at Amazon..

    WHSmith don't have it either.

    Nor my local library.
