I played at 3Dice when they were sponsors of the gonegambling forum and free games for points site. I got the distinct impression that they catered to LOW ROLLERS. This was evident in the remarkably LOW max bet available in most of their slot games. The BIGGEST available was around the £6 mark, which is WAY below the max bets in softwares such as MGS (up to £200), and RTG (up to $100) for slot games. This clientele WOULD appreciate free tournaments with prizes starting at $10, since this was a similar amount to the free bonuses that could be won through playing at gonegambling ($10 - $25).
Since leaving gonegambling, 3Dice appears to have changed somewhat. I have looked in occasionally, and the available max bet has certainly risen towards values seen in other softwares, and I noticed the prizes for tournaments had increased.
They also had a few "run-ins" with members here, not least for inappropriate public disclosure of player account information. The loss of accreditation was to do with the lack of this independent RNG testing certificate, and there was NEVER a requirement to include game payout percentages in order to become accredited. The accredited RTG casinos have independent testing certificates, but it is up to them whether or not they give payout percentages for their games.
Any "free" money given out in 3Dice tournaments has to come from somewhere, and this has to be from their "net hold", so it is true that players who take full advantage of their "free" tournament entitlements stand to receive a better RTP from their deposits than those who only play the games.
The same can be said (to a degree) about other softwares that offer "free" tournaments, although the others rarely have tournaments that are TRULY free (MGS usually has "continues" on free entry tournaments, so you really only stand a chance if you get a good "free" start, and then pay for continues).
It has been quite a while since I looked in at 3Dice, so I expect further changes to have been made. My last check was to try the changes in "Medieval Moolah".
