RTG list One Club Casino license?

    Hi Bryan,
I was looking over the RTG list checking out how many new RTG casinos there are when I saw One club casino listed as being licensed in the UK.
Obviously this surprised me so I went to check them out.
They are part of the Main Street group and this is a transcript of the chat.

info: Please wait for a site operator to respond.
info: You are now chatting with 'mary'
mary: Welcome, how may I be of your assistance?
    NA: Hi Mary
    mary: Hi!
NA: I was wondering where the Casino was licensed as I can not find the info on your home page
mary: In which site are you at this moment?
    NA: One Club Casino
    mary: Thank you
mary: Our offices are located in Costa Rica. While the Central American country Costa Rica is home to more than 200 online gambling companies, it does not actually have legislation specifically designed to deal with gambling over the Internet.
NA: OK so the Casino is unlicensed?
mary: The Costa Rican government is of the opinion that the act of wagering does not take place at the location of the operator's gaming servers, so companies residing in the country are able to legally offer Internet wagers to customers all over the world as long as they refuse to accept wagers from individuals located in Costa Rica.
mary: Because of the absence of legislation dealing with online gambling, the businesses and operations of Costa Rica-based gaming companies are not subject to the regulations, monitoring, and testing to which most offshore governments subject their licensees.
    mary: Most companies are self-regulated.
mary: Because there is no official regime to recognize license holders, there is no betting or gaming tax.
mary: Instead, companies operate under a "data processing" license.
NA: Very well, thank you for your time Mary

That has to be one of the most honest replies I've ever seen from a CS rep. She tells you upfront they're not licensed, and goes into detail about how it works in Costa Rica. If only all CSR's were trained this well.
Attn: New Members! Make sure to check out the "Casinomeister Accredited Casinos" and the "Spot The Rogue" section of the main site here before jumping into "Online Casinos" with no information or knowledge behind you!

it will be a pity if her boss reads it, i bet she will be out of a job if they do,
shouldn't she have said, i want to be your friend, i love you come and visit us here in Costa Rica to see how we do things
    I gave up gambling,
Now all i ever do is make mind bets,
You never bet any real money you only bet in your mind.
The results are fairly good, ive only lost my mind 5 times so far this month

Nah, I doubt the words came out of her own mouth. It was clever of this casino to have such information placed with their live support and Mary just spewed them out. Look at the length of the reply to Rusty's question on whether the casino is unlicensed. Looks like they will gain business for being so candid.

I agree - it's such a refreshing and encouraging change to see an upfront and accurate response from an online casino support centre.

Have to agree with you all but that means we are saying a license is completely meaningless in many jurisdictions and we should praise unlicensed Casinos as long as they admit it.

Doesn't say much for the current state of the industry does it?

I don't see it that way at all - we're simply acknowledging that rare thing - an operator who is at least honest about his licensing (or the lack thereof).

I believe we all know that the majority of so-called licensing jurisdictions are a sham and of cosmetic value only. Then there are those that do little for the player until issues reach crisis point, international condemnation and the ass-kicking stage, and finally the few - in Europe - that do try and make licensing something of value to the player.

I see on the list is states "not yet reviewed" but the licensed in UK needs to be corrected as the UKGC has about the strictest regulation there is but this Casino is the opposite of strictly regulated, unlicensed.

There is also a new site listed as licensed in Gibraltar but the site does not exist? Real play Casino.

No Rusty, it's not that we are simply praising unlicensed casinos who admit being so but it's really a step in the right direction and long overdue. As things become more transparent and players start to learn more, there are possibly less chances of them being screwed. Definitely, we wont take everything for granted simply because of a single revelation but the casino operators may find that if this is what the market is looking for they may still continue to operate in jurisdictions like Costa Rica with lower costs and still maintain healthy turnover.

I believe that they know that players are wary of unlicensed operators based in Costa Rica and if they admit it and then build up their name they could yet attract good business.
