I had something under my name where private messages usually are. (I forget the name now , not enough coffee yet) Anyway I clicked it and to my surprise it was a few people wanting to be my friend

So my question is....how do I request friends? And what is it for?

Okay my question really is...can you explain in easy terms this new feature?
