Every forum has its disagreements and in the world of gambling, people will come from all walks of life so you will end up with a real mix - probably more so than on many other more specialist forums. Then of course you have issues caused in translation, hidden agendas, all sorts...and on forums you don't know who you are dealing with either: I've seen many people admit to drink problems for example both here and on previous forums I've moderated. And let's not forget, gambling can trigger negative enzymes at times!!
The "sabaticals" are a good way of dealing with most...some longer than others...but I hope that the majority of posters here, and the way they post, will have a positive effect on those who tend to be a little OTT at times.
I think debate is good, even argument has a place, but personal insults and confrontational posts are where the bannings come in. We've seen it many times and most of those people thankfully are long gone to other outposts, but there are always more to fill their boots. Let people like that hang around for long and other posters will start to dry up. Few people like participating on confrontational boards.
I am actually of the mindset that anyone who causes constant ructions - by which I mean insulting people or being rude - should be banned outright. Who cares if they wander off and whine elsewhere about censorship. Few will follow them and it leaves the way clear here for sensible discussion. And there's nothing worse than someone soapboxing by being rude and insulting just to try and get noticed
IMO.
Many of the problems are caused accidentally. On anonymous boards it's easy to be misinterpreted and even easier to be blasé about writing. If more posters read back their posts as if it had been written
to them, there would be far less confrontations.
