First thing you gotta stop is Gator. That is responsible for most of the pop-ups you are seeing.
Once you have done that, start noting down the sites which are using pop-ups that you object to - and don't go there again, but of course let us know which sites they are

Try this:
http://www.scumware.com and read up on why scumware is so dangerous. They offer free tools to rid your machine of scumware, etc. There are a number of programs that you can download from cnet.com that kill pop ups as well. Most reponsible webmasters understand that too many pop-ups are just plain irritating. I employ only one here (for my newsletter). And that's it. |

I checked out the site and ran a complete scan. It came back did I had 54 files infected. But it didn't tell me how to get rid of the infective files. I downloaded all the information that I thought I would need. And I downloaded everything that I thought pertaining to my situation. But I am still getting pop-ups with the "$you save" And I can't get rid of it. I think this is Gator, but wouldn't all the downloads installed, should this advertizement be stopped? |

You should be able to go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs - and there you should see the Gator application, and/or something called GAIN.
You can uninstall these and then run something like AdAware again. Other things can also cause popups as well. I'd need to see the $you save popup in order to know where it came from, but if it doesn't say GAIN or Gator on it, it's not Gator. Go to http://doxdesk.com/parasite/ and it will also tell you what you have, and gives detailed instructions on how to remove scumware. See if that helps any... |
