    Concerning Australians and Online Gambling

    Check out this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interactive_Gambling_Act

We have a law that according to this link makes it illegal for any casino operator to accept an Australian as a customer.

Why then can I still gamble?

Also you will note that it says Australians cannot be subject to online casino advertising.

Why can I still view online casino advertisements?

The law is strictly applied to Australian based casinos and advertising or gambling fourms sited in Australia. Other than that it is a very badly contructed piece of leislation which has massive loopholes effectively making it non apllicable to the majority of countries.

    Colly is spot on.

Basically any online organisation that IS licenced in Australia we cannot gamble at online such as casino and or poker. We can bet on sports online-both live betting and pre game betting.

Casino/Poker comes under the LIVE betting product which we cannot participate in.

Anything outside of Austalia such as 32red and the others we are fine with.

If you like I can find the bill that was passed in relation to this?

    regards,

The way things have panned out in Oz is very sad, really.

Barely a decade ago the Australian federal government's progressive approach to internet gambling through regulating same was admired everywhere, then they went into reverse and took the prohibitionary route.

That hasn't been too effective in an international sense, although the advertising restrictions may have devalued Aussie domains like Poker.com.au, according to recent media reports.

Even the Productivity Commission recommended last year that the online gambling policy was flawed and that the government needed to seriously consider a more regulatory approach rather than bans. Which of course the government decided to ignore.

And the attempted censorship of the internet proposals by Communications Minister Stephen Conroy have been condemned internationally and would appear out of step with the widely held perception of Aussies as a free-spirited, democratic and innovative nation.
