    How not to approach affiliates

Here's an example of an email from thegamingtraffic.com who didn't take the five minutes it would have taken to figure out who he was emailing. I received three of these at the same time via three separate casinomeister.com email address:

    Hello There,

I would like to pay CPA for prime banner positions on your website.

I represent several of the top Gaming brands and have a very interesting offer for you.

Please be in touch ASAP so that we can close the deal.

    Thanks

For one thing "Hello there" is a suck ass salutation. It's spammy, and it sounds plain stupid. This is an improper way to make an introduction.

The content is aggressive and pushy. Don't tell me to do anything ASAP. That is military jargon for "drop whatever you are doing and DO THIS NOW!!"

Why should I consider doing business with anyone who doesn't bother to bone up on what Casinomeister is...and what it is not.

This is linked on every page on the main site:
    http://www.casinomeister.com/order.php

    Obviously Evan missed that.

Make that 4 spam mails that I've received.

Perhaps I should begin a new rogue pit category - spammy affiliate managers.

Here's another one that came in today. He's using a gmail account to contact me

    Hi,

I was wondering how much you would charge to advertise on your Gambling related site. I am looking to place a small text based ad. If the price is affordable I may buy more than one over time. I usually ask for one line with just a few words. I prefer them at the top, middle, or bottom of the main content area of the site. However, I am sure we can work out placement.

Please let me know what you would charge me to place a link ad on your site. If you are interested let me know the price and if you prefer PayPal or a check?

    Thanks

    Hi?

    How professional...NOT

Media buyers who use yahoo, hotmail, gmail or any other free email services ought to be avoided. Ususally, I just trash them or refer them to this:

    Welcome to the club Bryan..

I been getting these (and others like them) for so long I have trouble remembering what my inbox looked like without all the spammy bull shit offers from these creeps and others like them.

someone around here has compiled a db of 'webmaster' address and they are obviously renting it out to the creeps.

Obviously, someone slept through Management 101 - making cold contacts.

Would you ever contact a possible employer with a letter like this? Hell, no.

On the other hand, I get professionally written ones on a regular basis.

    a) they address me personally
    b) they are familiar with the site
    c) they ask what my criteria is to be listed
    d) they ask to meet somewhere

Hence, they get their foot in the door and in many cases end up on the site.

And what, they invested a couple of hours researching the targeted website. It's a no brainer.

These kind of emails usually end in my trash, but I agree with you Bryan, the "ASAP" wording irritates me too...
I don't remember the last time when I got an email worth to read from aff managers...

I would like to see a unique approach in these emails not just the usual sales pitches...

Yeah, I got all of the above.

Decent ones are far and between, but they do happen.

You are spoton with the criteria for a decent approach you give, except nno one wants to come to the US to meet, lol! But they do offer conference meetings.

Others I may look at are ones that give someone I know as referrer.

Most importantly I need to see they know my site.

That would be a good idea. But as well as The Gaming Traffic who incidentally like mailbombing me, could you please consider EuroPartners. Who have now moved onto phoning me. Yes you heard right, they PHONE ME

They obviously got my office number from a whois record, but not to worry, I told them I couldn't consider listing them unless they were accredited with you here.

Have they arranged to meet up with you in Amsterdam yet?

Euro Partners are just too pushy for me. I don't like being pushed, I usually either push back or leave, depending on the situation. In this case, I just don't respond.
