    Backlinks

What is the best way for a new site to get some decent quality links? I know paying for them is the way some people choose but if you don't have money for advertising what would you suggest?

    Hi Beekeeper

Building backlinks can be a very difficult undertaking, but here are a few suggestions form my side.

Backlinks these days are more about quality than it is about quantity.
First step is submission to the different directories. Directories such as dmoz should be done first as it can take a while. If you want more info about directories, you can have a look here...
    http://forums.digital-m.co.za/showthread.php?t=548

Basically backlinks are divided into 2. Home page links and internal backlinks.
Then you also get different types of backlinks. My favorite is on way contextual backlinks. For this you need to build a network of friends that you do regular sharing of links with. If you publish a new page you need backlinks to it and then you just pop a few MSN's to friends in your network to pop you contextual backlinks.

A few articles that will also interest you is http://www.seomoz.org/articles/advan...k-building.php

    Hope that helps!

Unfortunately it is not just for gambling and some of them do not take gambling links but that is the list I use and I check them for deadlinks fairly often so it should be fairly complete.
    Good Luck!

    Warning on directories backlink?

    Hi Chatmaster,
thanks for your complete directory list and your suggestions.

But I read somewhere (if I'll find the articles again, I'll post on this forum, sorry), about a risk to post/receive backlink from public directories.

The search engines classify directories like linkfarm, and could be ban the web sites listed in there.

What do you think about it?

    Hi 007CasinoRoyal

Welcome to the forum! First of all, directories are the first step in SEO for any website. The idea is to get as many directory listings to initiate a proper indexing of your web pages. Thereafter the hard work starts because directory listings alone will not get you ranking, especially in our industry. In terms of directories requesting a reciprocal link I usually make use of link pages for them. I do not believe SE's will penalize your site for doing reciprocal linking but it certainly contains no benefits. The real benefit comes from pay for submission directories where you have pure incoming backlinks. Just make sure the pages on which you will be listed and not the home page gets indexed by Google and contains no "no-follow" tags. There are several sneaky directories out there.

Also read this post http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/seeing-nofollow-links/ very interesting read. Also read http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/tell-m...our-backlinks/

    Thanks for welcome...

It could be useful for some of you (if you have italian pages on your websites), this italian directory list: http://www.giorgiotave.it/forum/posi...-italiane.html

...some of these are free, backlink required, submission payment... (and one banned - look at www.gloo.it and if you can give us your opinion).

At the same time, perhaps, we have to choose directories about IP location too?

Many directories are built on the same network (I mean: "sister sites") from the same IP and / or C block and recive backlink fore more than one of this it colud be useless hard and expensive work.

More, if you are webmastering a web site to grow in the European traffic (for ex.), it could be better to choose europe IP based?

Especially, I think, if you put on your site a backlink to directories... PageRank / TrustRank considered in a "geographical" contest too ( )...

I'm refferring also to your interesting post: http://www.casinomeister.com/forums/...html#post90162

I've seen many web sites (Europe IP based) searching for european traffic, get many user from US: they have, probably, too much backlink from web sites and directories US based.

I like your thinking, a very productive post. One of the biggest wishes I have is to build a directory list for the Asian and European markets. Those are the markets many of us wish to do better in especialy at the moment.

Yes, I know... I don't know how, but could be a good idea to collaborate on...

We are under the "power" of the directories (and many other things ), but REALLY, directories should be under power of US !?!

Aren't directories provided from webmasters? do not directories need of others webmasters? well, here we are: give 'em hell!

Why not? The only problem is to find a little time!

Just a quick note to say thanks to Chatmaster. That list of directories really does work. I noticed today Google has given my home page a PR of 2. Hopefully this will encourage more people to swap links with me.
