William Hill Ends Lincoln Handicap Sponsorship

Blames implementation of POC Tax

Gambling giant William Hill has cut a long-running sponsorship from its marketing portfolio as a direct consequence of the recently implemented POC tax in the United Kingdom.

The Lincoln Handicap sponsorship partnership has run since 2006 and was due for renewal, prompting the company to take the "opportune moment" to end its relationship with the Flat Race event.

"We had to review a number of our marketing investments on the back of point of consumption tax. We reviewed all our sponsorships and the Lincoln was let go as a result of that review," William Hill spokesperson Kate Miller confirmed.

The Lincoln Handicap is a flat handicap horse race in Great Britain that is traditionally the feature event on the first Saturday of Britain's turf flat racing season.

"Doncaster racecourse and Arc greatly value our long-term relationship with William Hill and particularly their last eight years' sponsorship of the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster, famously the start of the Flat season," commented Arc spokeswoman Kate Hills. "We are currently in discussions with several interested parties and hope to announce a new sponsor in due course."

Miller said the company did not plan to cut any further race sponsorships at the moment.
