Mike Shackelford's "Wizard of Odds" has been a valuable and respected reference for years
In an interview with Mike "The Wizard of Odds" Shackelford this week the online gambling information site Casino Slots revealed interesting elements of the sale of the wizard's expert information site recently for around $2 million to Joshua Chan.
The Wizard of Odds site has been a respected and valuable reference point for years, with Shackelford providing unbiased and professional views on matters gambling backed by solid mathematics and a knowledgeable insight into the industry.
Chan said he was attracted by the quality of information and advice on the Wizard site, along with its capacity to earn revenues, reputation in the industry and solid seo rankings. Chan bought four Shackelford sites, Wizard of Odds, Wizard of Macau, Las Apuestas.mx and Wizard of Odds Vegas, applying the expertise he has gleaned from three previous online gambling site acquisitions.
Shackelford and Chan started discussions in August this year, when the former decided that selling was an option for financial reasons. That was followed by serious negotiations that started with Chan offering a consideration of $1.6 million and involved several counter offers and re-offers in a climate where there were other interested bidders before a deal was struck.
At the time of the deal, Shackelford described the change to his readers, writing:
"Throughout the month of August and early September, I entertained several proposals to partner with other affiliate sites to help with the advertising. However, in the end, I concluded a clean sale would be best, with me working for a new owner on salary. This deal applies to all my Wizard sites: this one, Wizard of Vegas, Wizard of Macau and Las Apuestas.mx.
"That said, I'd like you to meet the new owner, Joshua Chan. You may know Josh as the owner of LatestCasinoBonuses.com and GamesAndCasino.com. He assures me he won't change the mission of the sites – to provide truthful, mathematically based strategies for the whole gamut of casino games. I have a long leash so I can keep providing content the way I've always done. I'm sure you'll see more content promoting Internet casinos, which is a cost of doing business."
