Teething Problems At New Ontario Online Gambling Site (update)

Registration, geolocation and glitchy games reported

Ontario's new GTech-powered online gambling site PlayOLG.ca has encountered some teething problems in its first few days of operations, with the Toronto City News reporting player complaints regarding flawed geolocation, glitchy games and a registration process that taxes the patience of would-be online punters.

The newspaper picked up on a number of tweets and forum messages from players regarding the site, reporting that at registration impatient and frustrated players are required to enter all the information exactly as it appears on their government identification document.

Recreational players beefed that the process was too complicated and took too long. Others alleged that despite trying to log on from Ontario IP addresses they were told by the system that they were not in the province.

Still others alleged that several games were not working, along with live chat and email support on occasion. And there were those who complained of waiting up to an hour to speak with a human via live chat when it was working.

Approached for comment, a spokesman for operator Ontario Lotteries and Gaming Corporation said:

"Demand for PlayOLG customer service is very high at this time, especially being the first weekend since Thursday's launch. We appreciate everyone's patience at this time… the PlayOLG registration and verification process is very robust."

City News conducted an informal online poll which on Saturday showed 54.22 percent of respondents rejecting the invitation to use the site, whereas 45.78 percent said they were prepared to try it.
