Police in Singapore reported yesterday that they have arrested 78 individuals between the ages of 19 and 85 during a six day operation, aimed at tackling gambling and vice in the City State.
In total 37 people were arrested for participating in illegal gambling activities and $6,500 Singapore Dollars and 14 computers were seized by the authorities. The co-ordinated raids were organised by Central Police Division and took place around the city.
Of the 37 people arrested on suspicion of being involved in gambling related activities, twenty seven were men and ten were women.
Should they be found guilty of ‘using a place as a common gambling house’ they could receive jail sentences of up to three years and or a fine of S$50,000 Singapore dollars.
Gambling is a common and popular past time in Singapore however, the operation of ‘gambling dens’ is strictly illegal and it is also illegal to ‘game’ in public. Legalised land based casinos are obviously exempt.
