Rank Group Capitalises On Pokemon Go Craze

Subsidiary Mecca Bingo launches new promo

Rank Group subsidiary Mecca Bingo has been quick to exploit the current Pokemon Go craze, launching a promotion this week with good rewards for players who capture Pikachus and Squirtles.
The rewards include meal and slot game vouchers and free bingo games, and all players have to do is share a screenshot of any Pokemon they pursued and caught while at a Mecca club to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #MeccaPokemon.
Mecca Bingo's social media manager Candice Nicolakos, explained in a statement this week:
"The Pokemon Go trend is sweeping the national, the globe and Mecca customers. Customers at Mecca Bingo are well used to playing a mix of games across digital and in real life, so the augmented reality game is a natural next step for many of them.
"The varied locations of our clubs and their size mean that many of them are prime Pokemon hunting spots and we thought what better way to celebrate than to give enthusiasts a chance to win a night out of bingo, whilst they attempt to catch the Pokemon characters.
"Pokemon Go is now officially bigger than Twitter and Tinder in terms of daily users. We wanted to see just how many creatures are waiting to be caught in our clubs across the UK."
According to a new study by research group Frost and Sullivan, the global gaming market has received a significant energising fillip from Pokemon Go, opening up new opportunities in the augmented reality market.
"There will still be significant growth in the mobile gaming market," said Marc Einstein, research director for Japan at Frost & Sullivan, in a statement. "The recent release of Pokemon Go has provided a proof of concept for augmented reality and location based gaming. The partnership with the game and McDonald's in Japan also opens the door for new revenue streams for gaming companies.
"There are also many new interesting areas such as connected toys which will further bridge the gap between digital and physical products so we expect continued growth in the gaming market."
