SBObet and IBCbet named by police
Online sportsbooks SBObet and IBCbet have been named by Indonesian police announcing the arrest of two otherwise unidentified men with the initials IRW and DMF in Jakarta this week in connection with accepting wagers from locals eager to bet on European football games.
Police spokesman Cdmr. Budi Hermanto told the Jakarta Post that as much as $665,000 a month could have flowed through the illegal betting channels operated by the agents over the past two or three years, and it is believed that the ring may be linked to a hub in Cambodia.
It’s not the first time that Indonesian police have associated gambling agents with the two international sports book operations; a year ago, nine agents allegedly working for SBObet and IBCbet were arrested. Both companies are believed to hold online gambling licenses issued by the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority in the Philippines.
Jakarta Police now claim that they have identified 200 such agents operating in the Indonesian capital.
Other local media reports alleged that two other SBObet agents have also been taken into custody this week as the local police commander boasted that he was closing in on the top structures of the gambling ring’s chain of command, thanks to information gleaned from equipment seized during the arrests.
