With the national elections over, regulator appoints experienced exec Sarah Harrison
The appointment of a new chief executive of the UK Gambling Commission, delayed due to the recent national election in Britain (see previous InfoPowa report), has now been finalised with the announcement that Sarah Harrison will take over from Jenny Williams as CEO on October 1 this year.
Harrison is an experienced regulator who was previously in management at the British energy regulator Ofgem; she will start working at the Gambling Commission on September 7.
She is currently a senior partner at Ofgem where she leads the Sustainable Development Division. Previously she was Managing Director of Corporate Affairs at Ofgem and before that, Communications Director. Before joining Ofgem in 2000 Harrison was the first Chief Executive of ICSTIS, the UK industry regulator for premium rate telephone services. Her earlier career was in government and public relations consultancy.
The chairman of the Commission, Philip Graf said Thursday: "Sarah has a wealth of experience in regulation along with social and consumer policy and communications — she is well placed to lead the Commission into its second decade as the regulator of commercial gambling in Great Britain."
Harrison said that she was looking forward to the new challenges of keeping gambling fair and safe and regulating an industry which is changing rapidly with technology.
