GAMSTOP hits new milestone — half a million users and counting

As of September 2024, GAMSTOP has hit a new milestone with a total of 500,000 users registered since its founding in 2018. Reportedly, 440,000 users are currently excluded, and roughly 50% have opted for the longest supported self-exclusion period of 5 years.

The self-exclusion scheme set another notable record earlier this year when it had a total of 8,686 new sign-ups in April 2024 — the highest number of new registrants recorded in one month. Overall, GAMSTOP has been seeing positive trends across the board, with a steady year-on-year increase in 2023 and H1 2024.

Commenting on the new milestone, GAMSTOP’s CEO, Fiona Palmer, said the following: “We have come a very long way since our launch in April 2018, and GAMSTOP is now widely recognized as an important tool to help vulnerable consumers take a break from their gambling. We are proud to have been able to help hundreds of thousands of people take back control of their lives through self-exclusion, and we hope to help many more in the years to come.”

GAMSTOP also shared some results from a recent Ipsos survey that included over 4,650 users. Though this is only a small sample of the overall user base, the survey revealed some encouraging numbers. Reportedly, 78% of respondents felt that GAMSTOP delivered expected results, and 75% felt more in control of their gambling choices.

On that note, Palmer also said the following: “It is right that we regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the service through independent research, and we will shortly be announcing the results of a comprehensive listening exercise conducted by Ipsos.”

GAMSTOP plans to publish the full report later this month, and it will hopefully provide further insight into the effectiveness of the self-exclusion scheme, as well as the general trends regarding responsible gambling in the UK.
