Daily Fantasy Sports In New Danish Gambling Law Amendments

Danish lawmakers keep up with modern trends

The Danish government has received the all-clear from the European Commission on a series of amendments to its online gambling laws that include the legalisation and licensing of the burgeoning daily fantasy sports vertical.
The fees attached to the proposed new DFS licence have yet to be settled, but the regime should be in place before the end of 2015, reports indicate.
Other changes include reduced re-licensing costs for existing online gambling operators in the Danish market; tougher measures to comply with EU directives against money laundering; and increased licensing (not tax) fees for operators with revenues of more than Danish kronor 100 million a year (around $16 million), along with reduced licensing costs for operators below this amount.
The 20 percent of GGR tax rate on operators, along with a 28 percent corporate tax, remains in force.
