Today marks the first day of the Cheltenham Festival, with the Blue Riband race, the Gold Cup, being held on Friday, the final day. Much fancied horse Clan Des Obeaux is currently the second favourite with odds of 4/1, which is owned by former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. With bookmakers fearing that ‘Fergie’s’ horse, could cost them a small fortune.
Spokesperson for William Hill, Rupert Adams, told the Daily Star newspaper: “Cheltenham is the biggest betting week of the year and it can literally make, or break, our year. Under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United cost us millions, now he owns what could be one of the best-backed Gold Cup runners in the history of racing.”
