Lottery's own audit branch warns on failure to consider problem gambling impact of PlayNow online slot games
A British Columbia Lottery Corp audit branch report in March this year regarding the company's PlayNow online operations has surfaced in the Canadian media following a 'freedom of information" request, triggering some criticism of the provincial online gambling monopoly.
Auditors found that mandatory problem gambling assessments were not carried out when online casino games were approved for PlayNow use.
The audit report contained a warning that the omission may place the Corporation in non-compliance with the provincial Gaming Policy and Enforcement's advertising standards, and could create "negative public perceptions toward BCLC."
A spokesman for the BCLC said the shortcomings were regretted and had been corrected following the audit
