Bet365 Facing Player Litigation In Spain

230 online punters claim that operator unfairly limited their wagering or closed their accounts for being too successful

Online gambling group Bet365 is facing litigation initiated by 230 Spanish players who allege that their success in wagering through the online bookmaker resulted in the operator limiting or even closing their betting accounts.
The allegations are made in a filing in the Courts of First Instance of Madrid which claims the players, who have identified themselves as a group with the title mueBETe, were treated unfairly.
Bet365 has responded by emphasising that under its terms and conditions, which the players accepted prior to wagering, it has the right to limit or close accounts at its discretion.
Ricardo Fabrega, the legal representative for mueBETe, has claimed that limiting or closing down successful punters is an "abusive" tactic not solely applied by Bet365, and that the mueBETe issue could serve as a test case and precedent for further player actions against other gambling operators like William Hill and GVC.
The mueBETe complaint was initially referred to the Spanish regulator DGOJ, but this did not generate the relief which the players sought, compelling them to take the matter to the judiciary, Fabrega says.

Brian Cullingworth

Infopowa news was a staple of Casinomeister’s news from 2000 until 2019. Brian Cullingworth was the main writer, contributor, and was one of the most knowledgeable persons I have ever known involved in the online casino industry.

We first met in January 2001 at the ICE in London where I observed him going booth to booth interviewing online casino, software, and licensing jurisdiction representatives. Brian was also heavily involved with our forum as “Jetset“, he was involved as an informal consultant to eCOGRA, the OPA, and was a player advocate who assisted countless aggrieved players with his connections to industry folks. He also published “Casino Cautions” via Infopowa news for quite a number of years. These can be found in our news archives.

His passing in February 2019 was a dark day for us. He will be forever missed.
