Baseball League Takes Precautions On Daily Fantasy Sports

League players are specifically banned from participating in daily fantasy sports contests involving money

The US Major League Baseball authorities may be supportive of daily fantasy sports (see previous InfoPowa reports) but on Friday they took the precaution of specifically prohibiting its players from participating in any DFS activity that involves real money betting.
The ban does not preclude players from entering into endorsement or promotional deals with the booming daily fantasy sports industry, but could extend to playing for prizes, where MBA commissioner Rob Manfred has opined that the anti-gambling Rule 21 applies, despite his acknowledgement that DFS is a game of skill and therefore escapes the definition of gambling.
