5 British Slots Every Player Should Check Out

By Alex Smith, Last updated Oct 2, 2020

Game developers are always getting creative with their ideas – and new engines like Megaways, Nobleways, Cluster-pay mechanics and more are helping software providers innovate game design. However, when it comes to the themes built into games, most developers have a few “reliable” ones to fall back on; we see a huge number of Oriental, Ancient Greek, Explorer, Halloween and Dragon-inspired games…

And today we’re going to be looking at one of the less-common themes – slots themed around Britain! Let’s take a look at five of the most British slots available to be played today!

Beat the Bobbies

Beat the Bobbies is a video slot from Eyecon – an Australian-based game developer who are yet to break through into the mainstream iGaming world, but who’ve had mediocre success with a couple of slots like Fluffy Favourites. Beat the Bobbies is based all around British policemen – and the quirky-looking game is actually quite fun to play, despite its simplicity.
Eyecon have opted to lean heavily on many British stereotypes in Beat the Bobbies, and you’ll see the reels set against Buckingham Palace. The symbols on the reels include a Queen’s Guard, a Bulldog, a Tiara, a Crown and some Gemstone symbols – and the bobbie himself is the game’s wild symbol, substituting for all other symbols bar the scatter symbols.
If you land 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view you’ll trigger the Free Games bonus, and you then get to pick one of the following bonuses:

  • 8 Free Spins with a 5X multiplier
  • 10 Free Spins with a 4X multiplier
  • 15 Free Spins with a 3X multiplier
  • 20 free Spins with a 2X multiplier

It’s also possible to re-trigger the free-spins by landing another 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view – and you can win a whopping 320 free-spins in total, so Beat the Bobbies is a good choice for those looking for (potentially) endless bonus fun!

Henry VIII

Henry VIII is perhaps Britain’s best-known King, reigning from 1509 until his death in 1547. He’s known for having 6 wives (and beheading a couple of the ones he didn’t like!), and shaping religion in the country – and Inspired Gaming decided to honour his memory by developing a video slot all around him and his reign!
From the moment you load the game up you’ll notice that it carries a very Tudor-like look and feel to it, and on the reels themselves you’ll see Jesters, Golden Crowns and Jousting Knights! There’s also a fitting soundtrack which includes a medieval flute – setting the scene and virtually transporting you back to the Middle Ages!
There’s also two different bonuses to look out – and you get to choose which you’d like. The first is an unlimited free-spins bonus round – with a progressive multiplier in play – or, you can choose to have 8 free-spins with a 4X multiplier in play from the start. While you probably won’t walk away with payouts with more than 500X playing Henry VIII it’s quite a bit of fun – and Inspired Gaming have done a decent job with the theme, really setting the tone and making for exciting gameplay!

Big Ben

Big Ben is one of the most iconic images when most people think of Britain – and it’s no surprise to see it chosen as the central theme for a video slot. “Big Ben” comes from a game developer called Aristocrat, and this patriotic slot encompasses British elements to make it an authentic game for those looking to experience some British culture during their iGaming time!

As you can imagine, Big Ben itself makes quite an appearance in the slot, and it’s the Big Ben scatter symbol that triggers entry to the main bonus round. Landing three of the Big Ben scatter symbols anywhere in view will award you with 15 free-spins, and during these spins all wins are subject to a 2X multiplier. If you’re lucky enough to land five of the Big Ben scatter symbols anywhere in view, not only will you receive 25 free-spins with a 2X multiplier – but you’ll also be awarded a cash payout worth 1,000X your stake! It’s a pretty basic game, but there is some win-potential to be found in this mid-variance release!

Cops ‘n Robbers

Cops ‘n Robbers is another police-inspired slot machine, and in today’s post we’re looking at the game from Novomatic; games of the same name have been developed by Play’n Go and Mazooma too. Cops ‘n Robbers is a 5-reel, 3-row slot machine with 20 fixed paylines, and – as you can imagine – the theme revolves entirely around cops and robbers!
As player, you’ll be playing as the robber, so you’ll need to do your best to evade justice and escape the policeman! This is seen first in the Board Game Bonus, where you’ll get to roll a pair of dice and move around a board collecting prizes as you go. Keep rolling the dice – and collecting cash prizes – until the copper catches up with you – but even when this happens you’ll get a “second chance” and have one more chance to evade justice.

Some versions of the game also include a progressive jackpot feature which is won by collecting keys during the board game bonus round. It’s an iconic game and it’s often found at bookmakers throughout the UK – forming a 5-of-a-kind combo of the “Cops ‘n Robbers” symbols awards a whopping payout, and there’s some really good win-potential if you can avoid the copper and get away with the crime!

The Royal Family

The Royal Family is a video slot from Yggdrasil, and while it doesn’t directly reference the Royals, it’s pretty hard to deny that it’s themed heavily around the British Monarchy – albeit in a different era.

Load up the slot and you’ll be transported back to the middle ages where you’ll be playing alongside the noble King and princes, princesses and other relevant figureheads from the time. The Royal Family has an RTP of 96.1% and ranks 7/10 on Yggdrasil’s volatility scale – so it’s actually possible to walk away with some pretty sizable wins.
There’s a royal selection of bonuses and features too, and the main free-spins bonus sees wild symbols locking in place for the duration of the bonus. There’s also five collectable free-spins bonuses, and in total there’s 12 bonuses in the game, so there really is a handsome selection of features to look out for!
