Has anybody been asked to show more than 1 form of id when picking up money from WU? When trying to make a pick up about an hour ago ( a large pick up 3g's ), they told me i needed 2 forms of id (debit card not good enough) and i was going to have to fill out some form, which, i cannot be sure, but i intuited that it had something to do with asking for my social security #. However, i didn't get to see the form because i didn't have two valid forms of id on me, just my drivers license. So,to make a long story short, i didn't get my money, and i am not real sure what i am going to do about this situation. I wish i had requested a check instead of getting myself in the middle of this hassle. I am kind of nervous and don't really know what to do. Anybody have any advice?

Yea, I could go back w/ 2 forms of id but i don't want to fill out that suspicious looking form they were going to try to make me fill out, u know. I don't know what kind of info they were gonna want. I mean, i don't know what to do. Would u be nervous?

You have to fill out a form to pick up funds sent WU anytime you get money. It's no big deal. I don't remember if I had to show 2 forms of ID but I did have to fill out the form. I'd fill out almost anything for $3000 right now. If you don't want it, you can give it to me. :D

I'm in Canada so the new (post 9/11) rules are similar, but not the same and it looks to me that you've just been caught in one.

The ID's requested isn't at all unusual when the 'security question' option isn't used.

As for the form you're filling out, (not the standard pick up form), it isn't required in Canada unless the transaction is more than $5k, but it's for both taxation and anti-money laundering statutes.

I would grab your ID's and then pick up the money at a different WU location, you might be able to skip the forms the second time around.

Well, here's the deal. I went to another WU location and was prepared to play dumb if i had to. The guys at the store were really cool and basically had to empty the whole store out to get me my cash. It took about 15 minutes. They were super friendly and going out of their way. Right before they counted the cash out to me, and i mean right before, the guy was like, '' all right just a little more information i got to get from u". I was thinking, "what". Social security #, Date of Birth, and some question like, are u excepting this on behalf of anybody else? Of course by this time my spirit was broken and had metamorphosed into the biggest punk ever due to my uncontrollable lust over the 3g's i was anticipating receiving. I got my money, but, man, was it worth it. Now I'm freakin out, thinkin, who is gonna contact me askin me from the gov't askin who I'm sellin nukes 2 or am i having secret meetings with Wesley Snipes and Willie Nelson learning how evade paying taxes to horde my 10 figure fortune. No more gaming 4 me. I will be the first person w/ a gambling addiction to quit because i win to much. Lose Lose! Wouldn't anybody be a little paranoid.

You have got to be kidding?

Yea. I was kidding. A little. I do feel very uneasy though. I don't like the social security # thing. U know?

Collecting this money via WU isn't against the law - only not reporting it on your taxes is illegal. Follow your conscience. The tax form for reporting gambling winnings is simple and painless (since you can deduct losses as well).

Take a deep breath, don't panic..the men in black are NOT coming to get you. Convince yourself you sold some antique coins on ebay and the buyer just wired you the funds:D...there isn't that better?

...and don't be alarmed by the unmarked helicopters circling overhead or the car that's driving behind you with the lights off.
Those are just coincidences. ;)

Thanks. I'm glad ya'll think it's real funny. I'm sure i will see the humor in it to as soon as i get to tired to have another anxiety attack. I just like keeping a low profile, and not having to answer all the jeopardy questions correctly at the western union counter. I mean really.

Please don't take offense..we (or some of us) have had that feeling at one time or another...I used to get phone calls from security at my bank that asked if I really did buy something at a bicycle shop in Dubai...well, I was a travel agent with clients going all sorts of strange places and at times I went strange places so I started coming up with creative answers because I really didn't feel it was anyones business. It is normal to feel a little paranoia in todays climate...just wanted to take the edge off it really will be o.k.:D

Do not worry about it..I used to send my son money through Western Union when he was in the army and he had to have all kinds of ID to pick his money up. It is for security reasons where I could not say it wasn't him picking it up and trying to get it back..

These were the reasons they have to do this. Too many scam artists out there trying to take other peoples money..All that is going to happen is, whoever sent the money will be notified that you claimed it.

I got that notice every time I sent my son money...and he claimed it.

Relax...please...no on will be knocking at your door except the casinos that want there money back
.

Ksb if this is what gambling online does to you, maybe you should take that money and find a new hobby. Did you watch that program on cnn the other night? LOL:D

What I don't get is that some banks (mine does) have a notice that's plainly visible saying not to send money to people wanting money via the internet for whatever reasons, if you don't know them, etc.... but never once have I seen this warning at any WU outlet.

I'd almost bet that 90% of the nigerian WU scams would fail if WU outlets were forced to put up this disclaimer...

but then again, WU could give a rats ass, as long as they get their cut for sending the $.....

hmm, maybe these nigerian scammers and WU are working together?
