Great - France are shit compared to Croatia, Griezmann dived for the free kick leading to their first goal and the third-world ref decided Perisic could react with superhuman speed to remove his hand from the trajectory of the ball which would have hit him and gone out for a corner anyway, and awarded a penalty. Typical France. I'm so pissed-off it's unimaginable.

Yerr, that's the question isn't it. Took France 20 years to rebuild, about the same for Germany after their shocking exits in '94 & '98.

Problem is England have had their 'Golden Generation' well over a decade ago and squandered it. Obviously a lot of the blame lies with our domestic leagues, not only with the players' lack of opportunities to flourish but the fascination we have with foreign managers, that will bring with them a whole legion of imports.

Yet mentality is where it's at, and England lack it. In fact, someone alluded to it recently, we teach our youngsters to enjoy football, others instill that winning is paramount. That's going to have to take a whole generational switch in mindset, but what hope is there if kids never get to kick a ball in anger for their clubs, and told it's the 'taking part' that counts

Just to annoy us. Like the time they sent their one carrier (the Charles de Gaulle) into port here when we had just scrapped our two old shitty aircraft carriers and were still building the 2 new super-carriers to replace them and temporarily they had the biggest ship of all European navies. Now we have the 69,000 tonne ones with F-35's and stuff, their heap of scrap is irrelevant so they have found a new way to spite us - football.

They were also mightily pissed-off with our success in London 2012 and then coming second in the medals table at Rio. So they've attacked our Achilles Heel, via football. We need to kidnap Macron the Micron and do a Joan Of Arc on him.

But from what I have seen during this World Cup I don't think that our young team have anything to worry about over the next 5 years or more. Southgate is building a very good squad
