WMS Transmissives - Zeus, Safari Wild, Rose of Cairo etc.

I like the older WMS G series transmissive games. They are relatively affordable and generally give you good play, while giving you a chance to win something good.

At Casino Woodbine, they have the Zeus, Rose of Cairo, Safari Wild, and Macchu Poichhu (can't remember the exact name), as well as several others. I've been playing these for a long time and thought I would share my observations about Zeus and Safari Wild in particular.

These games are penny machines, with the option to play at 2 cents, and 5 cents. There are other transmissives games in another section that are penny machines only with some alternating between $1.60 and $2.00 max bets.

I would guess from my readings that these are high-low to mid volatile type games.

Casino Woodbine does not disclose the RTP of individual slots. Minimum is 85% and 5 years or so ago, these machines were very popular and paid well. I believe they have lowered them since then and I would guess they are around 87%, maybe 89%. Just a guess based on about 10 years of gameplay.

I am focusing on Zeus and Safari Wild, since they are pretty much carbon copies of each other (Rose of Cairo and Macchu Picchu play identical as well).

They are 5 reel , three columns slots or 5 X 3. Zeus features the greek mythology symbols, Safari Wild features animals of the wild like Zebras, and lions.

Why play these?

The 2$ max bet to win $800 plus 100 spins (at 2$ max bet), plus the option of playing at 2c ($1600 jackpot at $4 max bet) and 5c ($4000 jackpot at max $10 bet) on the same machine still makes it one of the most attractive slot bets at Woodbine.

40 lines with up to 5 credits per line, (0.40, 0.80, 1.20, 1.60, and 2.00)

You can also play 30 lines (0.30, 0.60, 090, 1.20, and 1.50), 20 lines (0.20, 0.40, 0.60, 0.80, 1.00), 5 lines (0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, 0.25) and even 1 line (0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, and 0.05). The jackpot changes and corresponds to your bet. Playing 5 cents at 1 credit per line gives you a minor jackpot of $2.25 and a max jackpot of $20 for example.

3 bonus symbols anywhere gives you 10 free spins. 4 bonus symbols gives you the minor jackpot plus 25 free spins. 5 bonus symbols gives you the max jackpot plus 100 free spins. If you get 2 bonus symbols in the first three reels, the game slows down the other reels for entertainment effect.

I estimate the average bonus amount for 10 free spins at 40 lines X 1 credit per line (standard play) to be $10 - $13. If you get something good, it can be be much higher or if you don't can be much lower, but that is the average, or about 25X. The game also says "Big Win" with corresponding music if you get that amount.

Often, you can get a bonus symbol on reels 1 and 2. Or reels 1 and 3. Or reels 2 and 3. The game slows down the other reels and you are expecting the third one to drop but it doesn't. Instead, it rests just one above or below the paylines, where you can see them hovering out of play.

For me, when I get the the bonus, they seem to drop a lot on Reels 1, 2, and 4. Reels 3 and 5 are harder to land the bonus symbol.

The highest paying symbol in these games is Zeus and the Lion (Safari Wild). In the base game, these typically block out potential wins as they pay when they are grouped together only. But if you get three rows of them, they pay well and handsomely with more. There are of course, hard to get. But two rows come around often enough with a chance of a third row. Three rows of these pay $60.00 at $2 max bet on pennies.

During free spins, these Zeus and Lion symbols become wild for everything except the bonus symbols and that is where you can rack up some big wins. You can also re-trigger the bonus in the bonus. This is probably the best feature of the game.

To me, the game seems fairly balanced overall, allowing for good and big wins in the base game until you get the bonus. But if you don't get any good hits or a bonus - which happens a lot too - you'll crash out.

I wish I knew what the programmed average number of spins before you get the bonus.

Does anyone else still play these?
