Why slots?

I do not want to offend anyone, but I have always wondered why people play on slots? (pure slots, not poker or any other card game on a slot machine).
I can understand that one can be very lucky and win the big pot, but does playing on slots require any skills, except from understanding how the slot machine works?
I am a BJ adict and loves the challenges of that game. In most cases I have experienced that when I play at a fair casino, it's mostly up to me and my skills, and concentration if I am to end up with some nice winnings or not (skills do not count when you play on rogue casinos).
I suppose I may be wrong about slots, but I have never seen discussions about slots basic strategis, like we have on BJ.
Can anyone pleas enlighten me on this issue, and again my intention is not to insult any slots lovers!

With me, a lot of it is because I'm a bonus hunter and games like roulette and most variants of BJ are excluded from the WR... Couple that with the fact that I suxor at poker and about all that remains is slots and progressives.

I play on slots because they're fun, I expect to lose. Real poker is the only game I expect to win at. All online casino games have a house edge, including BJ, so eventually losing money is guaranteed - that being the case, why not play the prettiest/most exciting game?

Us slots players know that it is pure luck and good timing to be at the right place at the right time. You BJ players "think" you're controlling the outcome. That's the only difference between us.

Blackjack doesn't involve skill, you just have to play to basic strategy to minimise the house advantage. Coming out ahead requires luck.

    i'm sorry I needed a good Slot
I'll be good and keep it clean.
Just remember when you go to a casino ( a real one) always pick one at the ends of the row I think they hit more. or where the most people walk by does it too.

Welcome to the forum - and an excellent point!

I don't wish to annoy Blackjack players (I know some may respond), but they keep banging on about playing 'perfect strategy' - and if you do, the house edge is only something like 0.5%. So if you play a fair game for say $10,000, all being equal you will lose $50. How exciting! <yawn> ;)

The house edge on slots compared to BJ is HUGE - but so is the entertainment value. You hardly have to think at all, just hit autoplay & pray for 'that biggie'! You gotta love it!

Each to their own. I enjoy virtually all casino games, but I'll tell you what - if I play Blackjack til I'm 120 years old, I ain't never going to get a hand that pays out at 10,000 to 1 :D

I've always kinda thought this too. For sure there is skill involved in playing good BJ vs bad BJ, but excluding counting (which obviously doesn't apply online anyway), it's not a game you can beat. Which is to say, it's a mathematical certainty that if you play long enough, you will lose. If you've already accepted this, that eventually losing is guaranteed, with any of these casino games, including BJ, there's no reason to play but entertainment. If you play BJ because you love it/enjoy it, fair enough by all mean. But to play it because you think you can make long-term profit, you can't - to think it's an intelligent financial decision, well, it isn't. Slots players all know they're doomed to eventually lose, being a highly skilled BJ player is going to make you lose slower, but you're still going to lose. You're essentially doing exactly the same thing as the slots player, on a different interface. I play slots because they're exciting, and the house edge is the price I pay for that entertainment. :)

I used to play only BJ.

I got too bored. Slots are more fun. Sometimes I go back and forth between BJ and slots - if lucky I will have a good streak at BJ and replenish my slots pot.

    I also like VP.

Slots are Valium to the Soul

Slots are the most fun and the reason to play them is for the sheer enjoyment of the "SURPRISE" hit. The payout on a big one is pretty easy to swallow too. You can put it on auto when you get hot spins rolling and you can zone out and not offend anyone when your not paying attention to what your doing...so many reasons to play slots.

As for Black Jack/Poker....thats a totally different animal...one wrong move on a BJ table..and you get the evil eye, the murmurs and sometimes the outright nasy loud mouth calling you on the carpet and names to boot. Concentration is a key here and if you feel like being lazy...you can't be. Too much tension unless you gear yourself up for the play to concentrate.

Poker is a slightly different animal but in the same group as BJ, only difference is the other players tend to chuckle to themselves at any stupid plays you make and you have to have nerves like steel and an no ego to play or you end up in deep trouble losing your cool. Too much work and concentration on bad days to attempt for me too often :D

And I love playing table card games a lot when in the "MOOD"

So, playing slots is a no brainer, fun, relaxing and you get a bonus to boot when you win! Hows that for an answer? :p

    Have a great one! :)

Hence the reason behind looking for bonuses that allow you to play blackjack.

Bonuses give the player the advantage and ability to walk out with a profit after having finished the wagering requirements. Yes, even playing perfect strategy means you'll lose roughly .05% of your bankroll. However, when the player has bonus money and hits that statistical .05%, and then withdraws when they can after having met those wagering requirements, the bonus money minus that .05% loss = profit.

And as far as long-term profit goes, I currently stand at roughly 180% return on my deposits after a little over two years of playing blackjack almost exclusively. Yes, a little VP and very little slots play, too ... but I've never won or been able to withdraw anything during that play.

I play for the chance to make a nice score on a nominal bet. For instance... recently I won $1170.00 and a 50 cent bet on the slots. What would a balck-jack pay me... $1.50 ? No thanks. No excitement there! In fact, my brother just phoned me a while ago today and said he hit for over $2,600.00 on a single spin @ $4.50. Different strokes for different players I guess! I'm not into grinding it out at the BJ table for a possible win of 1.5 times my wager at the most. ( I think that's what BJ pays  .. I don't even know or care!)

I think the fundamental difference is do you want to play steady for a profit or play for fun and a lot more risk. I'm in the latter category personally.

For me, the key to slots play is knowing when to quit whereas the key to Blackjack is knowing when to set the alarm for ;)

That was at Hard Rock casino - though I guess all Wagerworks sites would probably have the same game.

That was a very lucky hit - I had played something like 30 rounds before deciding to have a flutter on the bonus side bet, and the above came on the second round! ;)
