Why do you play?

The change in the fruit machine format around 2005/6 also pushed me towards the online version, as all the skill and much of the tactics had been removed from fruit machine games, and hardly anyone who used to play them carried on.

For me, it's more a question of why I have switched my play to the online version, as I have been a "player" since my childhood holidays at the seaside.

Just like me mate,

I loved the days of £5 or even £25 jackpot machines and of course the tuppenny nudgers. Had sooo many great memories with them. I remember times where i played an "adams family machine". Put in £1 and had the "hold these reels" come up. I held them and in went the £15 jackpot.

Then as well being at a pub on a £25 jackpot machine. Was a bit tipsy so wasnt aware of what I was doing. i remember it being a machine where 3 chopsticks in view on reels = feature. After a few quid it was clearly in "max payout" mode because everything I did put me onto higher boards and I took the JP.

Nowadays its rare to find machines like that. At the arcade in the past 6 months I went on 2 £5 jackpot machines. 1 was "pink panther" where you get higher and lower board and 3 bombs unlock cash shots (3 more and your invincible) and the other was a modified £5 jackpot "monty python and the holy grail". I play "pink panther" now and again. When you get red "mega streak" it never pays anything more than £6.40 in total wins. The other week however I saw a first. The streak kept on and on... £5... banked and restart streak.... another £5... banked and restart again. In fact I took £40 out of it in all.

Then I walked over to the holy grail machine. Put in a quid. Literally the first spin was jackpot and then it repeated a few times to payout £15 :D.

Very nice luck with them.

But sadly there is too much greed with the machines now. Everywhere has £70 jackpot machines. They just scam you. £100 sunk easily with no wins or board in 10 mins... not fun.

Also its the non reputable small time arcades and fairs to avoid. I play the £5 machines at "casino" which is a reputable big chain.

We had a recent annual fair in town and they had loads of £5 jackpot machines in each arcade... anything ranging from "deal or no deal" to "cluedo" and "monopoly".

The machines were all clearly primarily £25+ jackpot machines but with a £5 JP chip put in (and the £5 decals added which looked as if they were printed off with a printer and stuck on) since they rounded all wins to the nearest £1.

A lot didnt have payout %'s on. Most had lights that did not work (so it would trick the player into cashing in something they didnt want) and they played awful. £15 had to go into 1 of them to even get jackpot. They even had a "pink panther" machine there that took the same to get "mega streak" and it only ever paid £5 max.

Bottom line, I completely agree with online casinos theres more choice, better odds and fairer casinos

I play because I enjoy it. But I don't play so often as I used to when I was "younger". It can easily be some weeks between each time I play (log in), but I usually play once or twice each month.

WOW WOW WOW.....erm wow?

I have been attracted by the extras, bonuses, scoreboard contests, etc. I quite like promotions where strategy can play a significant part, rather than just brute force "who can play the most in x days".

Of course, I like to WIN. Apart from money, I have won quite a few decent prizes. The most memorable by far was the early morning phonecall in 2006 telling me to prepare to be going to Germany to see the 2006 world cup final. I quickly forgave the agent the sin of phoning me at around 7am after I heard WHY:D
I also made an old friend's day, who spent the next month in a daze, unable to believe that out of the blue he was going to the world cup final in a couple of weeks.

Later that year, I got a weekend in Vegas to celebrate the launch of the new VIP program.

Then new management took over, and ran them into the ground:mad: RIP Casino Action & my VIP trip to Australia, which they were considering for the next time:mad::mad:

Then $8000 prize in a tactical wagering contest, and iPad, a couple of iPods, $2500 in travel vouchers, camcorder, Archos 5 - plus a few VIP gifts, many of them edible.

I can do all this about 3 feet from my bed, rather than having to make a long drive as I used to in search of the best fruit machines to empty.

...That's incredible Vinyl!
Needless to say, I want to be YOU when I grow up! lol :notworthy

no idea why I play !!most time for fun but I catch myself sometimes while I play to win money back!! :what:

spend much much money in the past 6-7 years !!! to much :D

Lucky brother!

I vaguely remember having a long lost sister with the initials H1R.
It's all coming back to me now......
I like Gold coloured cars BTW! Just Throwing that out there for no particular reason...!:p

Cheers
Gremmy(AKA H1_Rollers Long Lost Brother;))

Well, he takes my eldest child out occasionally, but said child is disabled so he's pretty hard work. I had my brother on the insurance for my own car so he could use that. But, naturally, when the kid is away I WANT to use my car while I have the freedom!
I had a really good week on Ladbrokes and so I thought I could be nice and just buy him a car. Because he's unemployed like a lot of people I also taxed and insured it for a year as well (all out of the winnings). But now he takes my son out a lot more often, so everybody wins! :D

For what it's worth (literally), it wasn't a super-duper car, just a little old Renault Clio, but it gets him from A to B... :)

That sounds wise:)...I guess that must be one of the reasons why you are a senior member-and no, it doesn't sound bad. Money doesn't make happy-but the things we can do with:D

I can say the main reason I play is to try and make money.

That may sound bad but look at it this way... I know many play casinos for the entertainment... I do too, but if being given the option of winning or losing I would always choose winning.

If casinos had no cash prizes or winnings (say you pay £20 to have 200 spins on a slot to get your score high with no prize) then the reality of it would be that nobody would play them really and places like this wouldnt exist.

I rarely gamble more than I want to and if I do put a bit more in its £10 or so more, nothing drastic.

Usually my gambling time frames are as a treat. So if 1 week I work really hard at work, do loadsa extra hours and earn £100 more than usual I may put £50 or so in that week to reward myself. Alternatively I will put it towards my monthly gambling funds, then at the end of the month see what I have to gamble with and budget it. Since my job is well paid and I have next to nothing to pay out it means I can sometimes have £1000+ to budget on gambling through the month

Thanks :D

I first used to goto the seaside slots as a child then as an adult progressed onto the high street ones I was obssessed with Golden Game machine then went onto the horses I had agoraphobia for a year and horse racing in the afternoons kept my mind as sane as it could be during my dark hours then got the internet and progressed to Cyberslotz and then MG and Bluesquare. After returning to work I dropped the horse racing and now do MG, Coral and Getminted.

Gambling is a release for me as I don't drink or smoke it takes me away from the real world and the chance I might win big.

True words, try not to 'hope' you will win-but 'know' you will. 'Might' indicates a doubt, which shouldn't be there as it gives you more doubts...Thank you for your honesty:):):)

Thank you all for your response

It was interesting and fascinating to find out ‘why’ other people play and had let me come to the conclusion that this forum is not only great in numbers-but honest as well…(Not to mention that the answers have given me a great inside ‘why other people play’ and gave me the opportunity to compare my own motives with others…)
Thank you all!:thumbsup::thumbsup:You guy's are great-keep up the good work;)

Heck with the entertainment, I want to win! :D

I accept your opinion and respect it and I think it is a general good thought as long as the person who has this thought doesn't 'risk' anything above the affordable while playing.
Good luck to you and thanks for your input on the question.
And apologies it took a while to answer-but work got in the way.:D

No luck to take some money from casino`s pocket, but have a lot of fun. As for me, casino is the great way to spend some time and waste some bucks;)
