Hi there,

I've been playing at a lot of online casinos in the last few years. I have noticed more and more caps being introduced on winnings - I've searched this forum bust can't find an answer - where does the excess money go on capped winnings ?

The big slot operators just advise the casino it's has paid out £5000on a winning spin for example but the casino has a 2k cap on winnings - where does that 3k go ? Is it on a balance sheet somewhere ? How does it affect the RTP of a slot by having a cap ?

thanks for all and any insight

how do you know when a cap is too low. Nektan group for instance offer a 4x cap on very high deposits when playing with bonus money
4x doesn't sound much but in effect it's a 'parachute' bonus which allows a free shot at withdrawing or converting 4x your qualifying deposit. The irony is that Nektan and Progress Play etc. offered these bonuses a long time before they became compulsory under recent UKGC changes and now all casinos must separate cash from bonuses. The money doesn't go anywhere; the game has still paid the amounts in the balance as far as RTP is concerned and you the poor sod who won it gets up to 4x250 of it for example - the casino doesn't get the rest, it just doesn't pay out the rest. It simply disappears into the ether at the time of either withdrawal or when the software automatically fixes the conversion when WR is complete.

There's no effect on the RTP. This is the same logic people use when someone has been playing a particular slot machine for 2 hours and won nothing, and rush to there seat when they leave it because "it has to be due". You can't negatively effect the RTP or positively effect it, those numbers are calculated doing hundreds of billions of spins so depending on the volatility and your luck, you may not approach that number for a while.

As for online casino capped wins, do any operators have a max win for particular games? It seems like they regulate this at the level of the max bet for particular games. I know of one casino which has max wins for each slot, but these are generally around like $300,000 so hard to say they if they have ever gone in effect

Only one I can think of off the top of my head is RTG: All their slots have a max win of 40,000 or 50,000 x your LINE bet.
I believe (from what I've read on this forum over the years) that this is factored in to the TRTP of the games.

I joined a casino before the weekend without reading the small print about capped winnings on welcome bonus. I basically wagered through 40x and managed to come out with £1000 in cash! But it's been on a pending withdrawal for 4 days now, looked at T&C's and they cap your winnings at £100! What a joke. 40x wagering with a £100 cap what's the point ?! They should also have software to stop the excess money going into your cash balance as if I can't have it then what's the point in it being in my cash balance?! Terrible casino. Will stick to slots on the bingo sites from now on atleast I know where I stand!
