When your joke falls flat and you crack up anyhow...

We were talking about embarassing moments (I've had a few!) and I decided to share one and see if this kind of thing has happened to anyone else.

When I was in Phoenix I was having some medical problems and my doc sent me to a new specialist. She's doing the intake questionnaire thing they do and she asked me if I was sexually active, I said, "No I just lie there" (because I've always wanted to say that) and she just gave me this blank stare. Well then I started to feel stupid and I got the giggles and the more stupid the whole situation seemed the funnier it got. Next thing you know I'm completely cracking up - you know, when you laugh so hard you can't catch your breath? And the whole time I'm losing it, she's sitting there stonefaced tapping her pencil and occasionally rolling her eyes or giving an impatient sigh waiting for me to quit braying like a jackass, and I just could NOT stop laughing and every time I looked at her it got worse. It was so ridiculous because the original joke wasn't even that funny.

My daughter told me this joke one time and it was so corny but hilarious at the same time.

What's round and green and goes up and down?

 ok that made me laugh too!

Actually I like those kinda of ridiculous kids jokes. Here's one you can tell her, "Why is an elephant big and grey and wrinkled?" The answer, "Because if it was small and white and round it would be an aspirin." ;)

It's funny though how something will just get you going and it seems like it's a private joke just for you. One day Ray got in a laughing fit because of something I said - it was right after Michael Jackson died, we were talking about the other members of the family. I was naming them off and when I got to LaToya, I had a stroke or something and I said, "LaToilet" - well he started cracking up, we were in the car and he was laughing so hard he had tears squirting out of his eyes and we're swerving all over the road and I'm giving him this, "What, are you insane?" look - probably much like the way that specialist was looking at me. He'd just start to get his breath back and then he'd say, "LaToilet" and crack up again.

And occasionally if he's in a bit of a silly mood if I remind him of that, he goes off again. It's so strange, because nobody else thinks it's funny.

    OMG I want to know!!!

Chayton--- I think we may be related and not know it!

Here's mine Seventh and you better spill the beans after this:

All women know how nervous they are with their first pregnancy. I was deathly sick from perpetual morning sickness, had to to take early maternity leave thanks to pre-eclampsia and was just a crappy feeling all the way around! Don't want to scare any future mothers' to be since my second pregnancy was a breeze.......

My first internal was done by my awesomely wonderful 74 yr. old OB/GYN who had a wicked sense of humor, as do I.;) As he is trying to ease my worries and *ahem* checking me out, I annnounce "HARK! Who Goes There?!". I kid you not he could not complete the exam. His assistant, MaryAnne laughed so hard she had to leave the room. I set into a fit of giggles and nearly peed myself. Had to jump off the table and run like the dickens!!!! I am 8 months pregnant at this point with all visible, envision that!

He has since retired and told my current GYN that I was one of his most memorable patients. :) Flattering yes. Sick sense of humor just like me. I don't feel so weird now. Thanks Chayton!

    ahahahaha....great story samoas!

I had a doc like that once, he was a really cool old guy. I was young and cute and he used to come in and talk to me while I was dressing and undressing. There was no pervy vibe or anything, I didn't think it was weird at all until I mentioned it to a friend of mine. She was all shocked and said I should report him or whatever - so I said (with a completely straight face) "It would only be weird if he didn't get undressed too."

lol, I thought her head was going to explode.
