Lanidar, did you call this person at Virtual back to see what he wanted you to call him for? If so, what did he have to say?
Hi jetset, I'll answer this.

Yes, he was called, twice, he wanted the connection between Virtual and Prism to be stopped, and I'm not quite clear on the part about the posting of the court document, but I think he wanted that removed, may have been because it referred to Prism also in the post, can't check the post since everything was deleted, but I think it did, I'm not sure.

The document was reposted at Insom once we got it up and running again, I did get permission to move it, to Archives.

But a link to the original document was posted sometime after moving the document itself.

The legal document is important for people to see, in my opinion.

Thanks. Whilst probably not legally conclusive, imo it is suspicious to say the least that his interest in removing the material critical of Virtual and Prism should coincide with this disgraceful assault on your site.

A very interesting 'coincidence' indeed. Just a fluke I'm sure. ;)

I want to thank you so much for the cache file link :notworthy , it saved me from logging into two more accounts and scripting the banners back in. View Source, copy/paste back into Insom, they were there. Thank You!

I didn't even think of doing that. An age thang .. :)

It always is with certain people .. :)

More sad news, GamTrak located at Link Removed ( Old/Invalid) was completed deleted last night, including their Members List, everything gone. The owner managed to get logged in, to nothing, and got to the log files, here is the IP that was logged .. 82.12.234.118

Worse part of this is, Ezboard can not perform a 'recovery/rollback', all is lost when this happens.

GamTrak has no idea as to why they were attacked. We'll be working on why this has happened!

I can't stress this enough - backup, backup, backup. Take the time to back up all active files DAILY and store them somewhere else besides your hardrive. I'm unfamiliar with ezeboards, but you should be able to download a zipped copy of your board and save it to your hard drive.

If this is not possible, then it's time to move on to purchasing some message board software that allows you to do so. It is well worth the investment of $70-$200.

And change your passwords often. When creating passwords, use letter/number combinations that make only sense to you. There are programs that are able to crack passwords - don't get caught with your pants down.

ezBoards are notoriously difficult to manage, and obviously because of the "shared" nature of the software, highly vulnerable to attacks.

I'm going to back what Casinomeister says - buy your own bulletin board software, in many cases the cost will be less than what you pay for three months of Gold Community at ezBoard. Plus, your domain name will be less than $10 per year. Hosting can be as little as a dollar a month.

What do you lose? Global ezboard logins... big deal
What do you gain? Peace of mind and overall lower costs.

Lanidar I am very sorry to hear about all of this. Its a shame some people in this business behave so poorly. Good luck with your forum, I hope you will not have any further troubles with Costa Rica.

That Virgin company is the internet arm of Richard Bransons Virgin airlines.

You could actually put the Authorities onto it, since it would have been an individual account on the Virgin network.

No way to back-up with an EZBoard, they couldn't even do it

I have a server running here at home, I guess it's time to get my own domain and house it myself.

What's the best message board software, that don't cost a bundle???

Forum Destroyed By Unknown Hackers

FORUM DESTROYED BY UNKNOWN HACKERS
29 October 2004

Sleepless nights for these owners...

Although it has not been fully operational for very long, the forum Insomniacs Lounge has already gathered a strong following and useful exchanges have been found on it's pages.

Operations were brought to a temporary standstill this week, however when a shocking and criminal act of hacker vandalism by as yet unknown crooks destroyed the forum content.

The owners have revealed that part of that content referred to publicly available information on Virtual Casino personnel, and critical comment based on personal experiences with the notorious Prism Casino, believed to have a close association with Virtual. The suggestion is denied by Virtual, which says that its apparently close relationship is, as was the case with Cirrus Casino in a past issue merely a case of lending a helping hand to the operation.

Arousing suspicion but perhaps coincidentally, it is alleged that a Virtual manager was in contact with Insomniac's owners in the same timeframe, requesting that they remove the material and prevail upon the owner of Gambling911 to do the same (911 was also carrying the information) It is reported that the manager suggested to the Insomniac owners that they may like to enter into a covert partnership with Virtual in a new portal operation, an offer which was declined.

The manager has denied any involvement in the destruction of Insomniac's forum, and reportedly suggested to the owners that it could have been "ex-Virtual staff" in Costa Rica. And as we were going to press news was coming in that another ezboard had been hacked and destroyed. The disgraceful incidents have underlined yet again how important it is for portal owners to maintain adequate protection on their sites and back up all material.

Bryan,
Jinnia and I wish to THANK YOU for your friendship and your support.
Your post is completely accurate.
Especially "The Sleepless Nights."

Now, we're FAR from being the biggest or the best guys in town...BUT, we truly work hard to keep our little portal informative, truthful and friendly. Our "INSOMNIACS," as we call them in a loving way, are there for us. They have emailed us offering their help in any way possible. And we love them for it.
Insom WILL grow and grow because we have FRIENDS like you, Bryan, to thank for this AND all our friends at Insom.
Once again, THANK YOU ALL....THANK YOU.

Only problem with Discus is that it is hard to convert to other platforms if you get too big. For smaller boards it's great.

These are just a handfull. Your best bet is to do some surfing and find something you like that is practical and in your budget. One thing to consider is making sure it's upgradable to other platforms in case you change your mind down the road.

My 2 cents - I think the v.Bulletin format is user-friendly and rock solid from a posters viewpoint. Inexpensive for what you're getting imo. It seems to be very popular, too. Save yourselves the hassle of a subsequent conversion and go right to it.
