Vegas Frontier and FortuneLounge Spam

In fairness to Fortune Lounge, "they want to know about it" was my phrasing.

It's more like "Marc offers to help webmasters get off Slickstreet's list".

The phrase "We do not know how this is working as he does not deal with Fortune Affiliates." refers to the broadcastbonus marketing campaign, which is paying players to sign up at FL casinos.

You should look at the entire thread to get the correct context. FL isn't disavowing knowledge of Slickstreet Marketing's spam activities; they just say that they have no control over them. Which is silly in itself.

Out of Control!

Has anyone had any luck stopping receipt of these emails by forwarding them to Fortune Lounge ([email protected])?

Ditto here with using the unsubscribe feature (if there is one) in the email. I do get an immediate acknowledgment (popup screen) that the unsubscribe request was received, but it is qualified by saying I will get one more email to confirm my desire to unsubscribe..............which I never receive.

WTF, bloody irritating!

Bruce Hamilton said:
I get that email, but the link to confirm doesn't match my email address. :what:

I guess I won't hold my breath then for the "confirmation" email!

I was scooping out cat litter boxes a few minutes ago (appropriate, huh?) when it occured to me that I should make use of my AOL membership to stop this spam. AOL has had decent luck against spammers and they will undoubtedly get further than I can.

I urge people NOT to make use of AOL to stop spam - you will find that most of the stuff you DID ask for will disappear as well. AOL has no frigging clue what they are doing.

Come to think of it, it now appears that Fortune Lounge have no frigging clue what they are doing either. Or rather, they don't really give a shit.

Spear, I wasn't thinking about using AOL's spam filters -- I do that already and these peeps just change their email addy slightly and the spam continues to pour into my mailbox. What I am thinking -- and if enough complaints are received AOL will act on it -- is to have AOL investigate the emails going through their system and (1) locate the identity of the spammer; (2) tell them to stop; and (3) if they don't stop, AOL will file suit. AOL successfully sued a spammer earlier (this year?) and cleaned his clock. At any rate, this is much more than I can do.

For our Internet Audience, who are not familiar with how online casinos and their marketing are structured, can you clarify the relationship between Fortune Lounge (the casino company being marketed), Slickstreet, and Fortune Affiliates?

Many readers don't even know what "Fortune Affiliates" is.

It's not the spam filters in the mail software that I am talking about - it's AOL's own discretionary method of banning whoever they feel like, regardless of whether you have spam filtering on or not. They have no clue how to investigate a spam complaint properly - so they block entire IPs and blocks of IPs instead to stop one spammer, and in the process block lots of other legitimate mail senders - even personal email between family members.

Take my word for it. AOL is completely useless at spam blocking. I can't begin to tell you how many times Got2Bet has been blocked, despite the fact that ALL newsletter subscriptions are double-opt in and it is absolutely impossible to wrongly add a name to the mail list.

This nonsense has been going on for way too long - what is needed is more direct action against these "marketers" by FL and less beating around the bush with intermediaries like FA and Slick Street.

Perhaps I am nothing but a blonde gnat, so I have neither received nor seen proof that FA or Slickstreet IS doing anything to address the problem. I am however still getting their marketers' spam, even after deploying the useless unsubscribe feature about three dozen times.

Spear, I read you loud and clear. At this point, I am willing to risk emails from my Aunt Bessie if only the spam would stop.

Offer I'm not eligible for because I'm already a customer.

Clearly, Fortune Lounge is ok with paying somebody to actively harrass their customers. They've had plenty of time to supply Slickstreet Marketing a list of email addresses to *not* spam.

We are Microgaming's customers too. Why is Microgaming putting up with this? Why are Microgaming's other clients allowing this to happen? They don't attack their customers like this.

Hi Mary,

I see this one is dated Tuesday 18 October. I hope that from this point on - today being the 20th, that all spam mails will cease.

Hi to all,

I've made it clear to Fortune Lounge that running this campaign is unacceptable, and that the spam machine needs to be shut off. They were removed from Casinomeister - and they need to take this very seriously. I hate to see a lot of hard work go down the tubes because of some stupid decisions on their part. I said I would be willing to take them on once this has been cleared up. I hope this is something I won't have to reconsider.

Spear, I read you loud and clear. At this point, I am willing to risk emails from my Aunt Bessie if only the spam would stop.

LOL... to be dead honest, I wouldn't be surprised if these guys managed to get themselves on AOL's whitelist just in case... unless Meister knows something I don't, I wouldn't bet on the spam stopping any time soon :(

To delve further, I recall a law passed in the US called the "Can Spam Act" or some such. Spam is a very serious problem that individual companies can ill afford to ignore; to do so is perilous to continued business in/with the US and its consumers.

What's it gonna take to get their attention?

Fortune claims to abide by, and allegedly actively promotes compliance with the CAN Spam act. This is more a case of lip service than anything else - because Fortune has never done anything to show that they are taking action against spam - yet they tell their affiliates and marketing partners that they abide strictly by CAN Spam regulations.

Very easy to hang them on this one - in fact, in case anyone has forgotten they already had their domains removed from under them a couple of times because of spam from the very partner they are trying to defend.

I understand CAN Spam to protect against unsolicited email. I believe that opening an account at a FL casino (thus supplying your email) leads FL/FA to believe they can spam the hell out of you and still be in compliance with CAN Spam. OK, say that is true........

Once you unsubscribe from their email campaigns, after a reasonable amount of time, doesn't their continued spam constitute a violation of the Act? And doesn't the Act require them to ensure the unsubscribe feature works?

Before I become the "Madalyn Murray O'Hair" of internet spamming, I will close.

I haven't signed up at Fortune Lounge casinos under four different identities all using the same email, so they certainly are not limiting this to existing customers who opt-in.

They're getting their email lists from other sources and sending unsolicited email. It's easy to generate fake "evidence" that all the emails are from opt-in sources, it's just a database. They can claim they bought it from somebody who swore it was all opt-in with a general interest in gambling, the same way Fortune Lounge claims that Slickstreet has promised them that it's all opt-in.

Sending new player offers to existing players; sending multiple copies of the same message to existing players--these lists aren't getting monitored or cleaned up. It's a contrast to the real opt-in messages I get from Fortune Lounge--they are for existing players, I only get one copy, the return addresses all clearly say that it's from a specific casino, there are no deceptive return addresses, and it comes only once a week if that often. Fortune Lounge is not coming up with different promotions every day for existing customers.

All of the above is valid comment, but I think the over-riding concern now is that Fortune Lounge as the commercial beneficiary has the ultimate authority and capability to put a stop to this outrageous and totally unprofessional spamming but has not elected to do so.

The management's attention has been drawn to it by several industry people, their spokesmen have even commented on the issue...but the fact is that nothing has been done to halt it yet.

We're not seeing uninvited spam of this volume and irrelevance from other Microgaming powered casinos, so it is clearly a FL- marketing specific fault.

I have already unsubscribed from all FL mailings, but they still keep sending them and the flood of "publisher spam" is continuing relentlessly, despite my request to the VPOP to get me removed. So much for FL's strict anti-spam policy.

The circle of.. coincidence?

While I was uninstalling 7sultans software for an unrelated reason, (60db is ridiculous) a browser window opens, (uninvited) to the following feedback page:

Link Removed ( Old/Invalid)

Toward the bottom of question #2 is the "mailbox clutter" reason to uninstall.

It took me a moment to translate the doublespeak "mailbox clutter" to the common english/american term:

"Spam"

which combined with a FL website, reminded me of Mary.

Suggestion

Perhaps we should all use that link. Q1 has the option "No account at the casino", so those affected by the spam can use this too.

Q1 (X) - No account at the casino
Q2 Reason (X) - Spam (Sorry, "Mailbox Clutter")

Comment/Other - I take your inability to stop the SPAM as a reflection of your ability to provide a superior level of customer service and stand up to your promises.

Ex-players can simply fill this in for all accounts they ever had. These surveys usually end up in marketing, and they will find that more people object to Spam than crap promotions & unstable software.

What is that? 7Sultans disassociating themselves from their own ads?

What?
Actually, without this disclaimer, it would seem that the email is coming directly from the casino (most non-Internet savy players would think so). The Fortune Lounge group does not permit spam to be used to market their casinos. Using this disclaimer, they are protected from any finger pointing. It's all the publisher's (the guy sending the spam mail) fault.

I am so tired of this "third party" BS and I do not believe it can absolve FL from their obligation to protect their customers.

They are the ultimate commercial beneficiaries of this spamming nightmare, and they need to take responsibility for putting a stop to it until the marketing lists have been properly and professionally cleaned up at all levels.

There has to be responsible accountability here.

If you want a joke, check out the whois info. All fake. ICANN regulations state that all whois information has to be legit, and the registrar is obligated to contact the owner to either make it right, or they will cancel any domain that has false information.

Sure they'll just go and register a new domain, but it's fun to give them the hassle :)

Any arguments NOT to forward each spam mail we receive to Fortune Lounge and ask them to freeze our accounts untill the spamming stops?

Personally I can only find one argument: it takes time to forward each spam mail.

Okay Fortune Lounge. Is there a reason why I shouldn't begin to pursue this? I've kept pretty damn quiet about this whole thing, but I question whether you feel this is an important issue since no one at FL has bothered to do anything about it. I haven't heard jack shit from anyone. I'm pretty surprised with the course of action you've taken, and I'm extremely disappointed.
