So I passed by here a couple of days ago to check out some accredited recommendations from CM and ended up at novibet.co.uk. I played off £40 and withdrew £18. I'm not a big player by any stretch but keep to my budget.

So they need ID from me. I sent as instructed, my driving license and my debit card, both sides. I explained I do not have any utility bills because like 2/3 of the country, I am not responsible for the bills. I don't get post because I do everything online for my bank and my phone is payg.

So while I have happily proven I am who I am, why is this not enough ? I am concerned about giving away so much ID when they happily take the money from a working debit card. I am with the population who rightly thinks this is seriously wrong.

If I go to PC World and and make a purchase on my card that has to be returned and refunded, they don't ask for a DNA test to refund.

So how do I get passed this ? I explained when sending the ID and got back a terrible almost automated request for the utility bill which 100% ignored my original response.

I am sure you could redact anything private on a bank statement, and it should be acceptable; I might not want them to see my subscription to the glossy publication "Voluptuous Grannies", for example.

I know what you mean, though, I've been through the mill with Betsson recently. :)

Picture ID and proof of address are the main ones casinos look for (with the obvious exception of payment method).

Pretty standard stuff and not that intrusive. Bank statements however.......

Hi 5ta,

Hope you enjoyed your weekend.

For your information, the KYC procedure is pretty standard to all UKGC licensed brands which basically means that you need to provide the following documents:

Photograph of your ID (both sides) , passport or driving license
Photograph of your card (both sides). For safety reasons, the first 6 and last 4 digits must be visible. You may cover the security code CVV on the back side.
Photograph of the whole page of a recent proof of address. The accepted documents are bank/ card statements and utility bills such as electricity, water, landline, gas, heat and council tax (issued within the last 3 months).

Please accept our apologies for any trouble or delay during verification process however safety and security of players accounts are always on top.

For any help contact our Customer support, our guys are always willing to help :)

Best regards,

Thanks for your reply Novibet Rep!

Your reply is going to be extremely helpful for 5ta because he probably didnt even know he has to send proof of address !

Ok i might be a bit harsh but this totally looks like bot replies issued by most customer support bots where you ask for one thing and they reply with some generic nonsense that doesnt actually answer your question one bit.

I know mail/chat reps do that but now its branching to forum reps too?

At this point your apology is meaningless. I have clearly stated I do NOT have any bills or anything that can prove my address.
Secondly, can you show me the law that states you are required to do this ?

You companies shouldn't be TAKING the money if you can't give it back. This "CRAP" needs to stop.

To CM and members. I respect this place. I do not wish to seem even one iota like I am disrespecting it.

It's time this rubbish reason for keeping peoples money is quashed. They should NOT be allowed to take the money if it is to be the case. Right now it is going to cost me to get proof of address, in time too. I really hate with a passion having to give over my ID to someone who has already accepted money from me. I have made it clear this does not happen in other debit card purchases.

It is unacceptable.

I see where you are coming from 5ta.

I believe in this day and age all casinos should just do what UK bookies sites do and verify customers electronically with no requests for documents at all unless there is a problem verifying.

But unfortunately most casinos do ask for documents and along with photo ID they always ask for proof of address in last 3 months. Same as going into a Bank t o open an account or taking out Hire Purchase etc. They all ask for proof of address to show you still stay at same address.

Do you not get any mail at all to your home address.

I'm fairly certain they can only do that if they are UK based unfortunately.

@5ta as frustrating as it must be, surely you know casinos ask for this all the time? You also have enhanced verification that you might get asked for and further you might get asked for more under anti money laundering rules. Novibet do cover themselves in the T&C's and state you might be asked for this, so they haven't done anything wrong. Your example of PCWorld doing a refund isn't anything like this as they aren't at risk of losing the ability to trade in the UK if they don't verify your identity, I would bet you anything, if they were told if they didn't verify the name and address of every customer they would have to close all their stores, you would be asked for the same.

Nothing you have provided proves your current address, thats the problem. I have known some casinos allow a photo of a bank statement showing your address from the screen, or utility bill, again, on screen, but a photo showing the full screen, maybe novibet will do the same if you ask the rep? Otherwise, print a statement and take a photo of it?

Personally I think the request for photo ID is worse, as plenty of people don't have it here, and there are other ways the UKGC finds acceptable for identity proof.

No. I have zero proof of address and I don't know if i can get beyond that. My banking is 100% online. I am still adamant they should request this BEFORE accepting your money. I play SkyVegas, no id required. William Hill recently £50 depo £52 withdrawn, no ID. Gala, Mecca... the list goes on. And when I do get asked by other sites I provide debit card and driving license which has my address on it ffs.

I see no valid reason for this to be so difficult. I am not going to be persecuted by money laundering convicts. It's £18. If they are so desperate, they can keep it. Utterly disgusting "accreditation". And with all due respect, just because someone else finds it "ok" doesn't mean I do.

Is that it Novibet ? Are you that desperate ? Keep it.

Check your credit file, every one of the casinos you mention have done a verification check on you. All UK companies. All who have digital access to the CRA's. Novibet cannot legally do what they do.

Your driving licence lasts 10 years. I moved 3 times before I bothered updating mine. Thats why they don't accept them as an address proof.

If I were you, I wouldn't bother playing at any casino other than UK bookmaker sites, and the odd UK casino, as you will be asked for ID wherever you go, you know, because legally they HAVE to confirm your identity or they can lose their license, and the ONLY way they can do this is by asking for proof of ID and address.

Casinos can do stuff wrong, but in this case they aren't, their terms and conditions clearly state they might ask you for this, so to call them 'money laundering convicts' is a bit over the top tbh.

Your bank should provide a pdf statement every so often, you can usually download them from the online banking website. If you need to redact it, you can do it with photoshop, or alternatively print it out and use a marker pen to redact it, then scan it and send it in.

As annoying as it is, I'm afraid that it is normal procedure at most casinos to provide this proof of address, it must be less than 3 months old..

Jeeze dude, chill out. Each and every online company has different legal teams that tell their prospective companies that Certain things are required for compliance. It won't be in tandem. It's a fact that it ID checks won't happen before accepting your money since the onus is on you to be abiding by their terms.

If there were ID checks before you play, it would be off-line not online. If you don't want to deal with it, then take a walk to your local bookie. Don't blame the operator.

FYI, I recently provided a copy of my cell/ mobile phone in lieu of a utility bill (to 32Red) and they were fine with that. Maybe ask if that would work?

FTR I wasn't calling novibet money laundering convicts, I was indeed on about the 'criminals' who this is all done because of. They are not my fault nor problem. I still don't see where I am getting this proof of address from because I have none. If I sit here and explain the last 14 months of my life, you'd all understand and as far as I can tell, this situation makes it 100% legal for novibet to keep my money and we're all supposed to be complicit with that.

I am not responsible for any bills here. I am staying with a friend, long term. As already stated, bank and phone are 100% online.

Just go to your bank and ask them to print you a letter with your name and address on. They all do this.

Remote gambling by its very nature requires money laundering documents - if that makes you cry then you are shi* out of luck.

I dont make the rules. My point is your making out should be choice or negotiable as they are not understanding your current siultuation. It doesnt work like that.
