Online casinos will face tougher restrictions under government proposals to overhaul Britain’s gambling laws, but the majority of measures will be subject to further consultation, signalling even more delay to long-awaited changes.
A white paper, the result of a review

Hahaha, this is too funny!
Mandatory credit checks? So the fucking retarted companies that do not so, are not being fined. The smart ass companies who do so, all got a fine? What is the added value of those checks? Jeeees....

I swear, the problem with all law makers is that those people are not operating in the field, they are sitting behind a desk reading peer-review-papers. Thats not science, thats academia!

Science relates to only people in the field with experience. And those should be eligible to draft laws and whitepapers. As a result now, the public and service providers will just laugh and hate those people.

Well done!

Let me leave this here, because this is what life today is about :(

Surely limiting under 25’s to rules not the same as over 25 is age discrimination? No? The uk has gone mad.

Hmmm dont fully agree, see Sweden or Holland.

More of a frustration post Jan and apologies, I have little if any knowledge of markets outside of the UK

If I have to be totally honest one or two of their new rulings are sensible and warranted, quick example the blocking of deposits with credit cards was a good move.

However not so much when they ban auto play, slam stops, feature buys etc, SoW players who deposit £10/£20 a time who've done so without issue since 20 years ago lol, RG pop ups when you've been playing 10 minutes...

I'll stop here but also back track, maybe not totally clueless but far from ideal either

Just swiftly read the paper. Yes the UK Government has gone mad, the UKGC are useless and both are unbelievably slow at implementing anything. Also most of it has to go out for further consultation so even more delay. I know the worst of it will happen one day but I reckon by then, if the world keeps going the way it is, only the very wealthy will be able to afford to gamble...

You’ve read the paper already?

It is all "maybe" and "possibly" at the moment and a lot of water to run under the bridge yet....

However going on past experience and what we have witnessed so far, most of these "maybes" do actually get implemented.

I totally get that RG, AML etc has to be controlled and controlled well at that but all the nonsense that goes with it is going to see most UK gamblers either having to give up or emigrate :p

Man I miss slam stop

Man I miss slam stop

Same mate.

Didn't do it all the time but if DoA was playing well, I'd start doing a few slams.

Totally know it makes no difference and it is coincidence but a few times the features and 5OAK seemed to fly in regularly using this "technique" where previously, normal spins had been pretty dead.

Remember like it was yesterday the one Saturday afternoon, I took £15ish up to £200ish on 9p-27p bets in about 30 minutes doing slams lol.

Naturally we need to see the full contents of the paper - but it feels like the industry is getting off fairly lightly, if anything the players are going to be targeted more?

  • 1% levy on GGY (gross gaming yield) for responsible gambling campaigns - been discussed for ages, small price to pay and most of the industry agrees with it
  • £2 maximum stake on slots for under 25s, higher for over 25s - they've been targeting young gamblers for years (after decades of promoting fruit machines to kids, it's a step in the right direction), it's not going to affect many older players but I'd prefer it to be reasonably capped (many sites cap at £10 anyway) subject to a check - if you're doing £40 or £80 spins regularly, you're going to hit all the other thresholds anyway.
  • Measures to slow down games - feels unnecessary, 2.5 seconds already got rid of all the hyper-mega-super-turbo shenanigans going on from pragmatic and friends
  • Looser restrictions for land-based casinos - ah yes, follow the lobbying money...
  • Affordability checks - the early draft mentioned £1000 in 24h or £2000 in 90 days... that seems pretty generous, especially if it provides clarity to both operators and players (although how long before a casino offers an opt-in above £999/£1999 🤔 ), and stops malicious operators using documents as a way to slow/prevent withdrawals. There was a lot of pressure for this to be significantly reduced - even numbers like £100 per month were bandied around.
  • Curbs on digital marketing (e.g. promotions offering free bets and bonuses) - this is really going to be a contentious one because we can see both sides of this, you take the promotions away and players will lose faster because average RTP goes down, but they have also been used to target players maliciously and coax them back into gambling. Hopefully the consultation steers towards cleaner marketing (opt in and opt out) rather than an outright ban.
  • No changes to advertising - so we'll still be seeing shady crypto casinos on football shirts then (at least until the EPL heavily restrict it in 2026)
Given how long we've waited for this review, I think the industry will be breathing a sigh of relief?

crypto casinos will make more $$$ well UK casino struggle to make £, great work UK GOV
This is how dumb the government is. They mentioned the black market in the review and announced that they will require internet providers to block illegal sites, as well as payment providers to prevent deposits.

Do they not realise we're all using a VPN and Crypto lol, good luck blocking any of that.

I think Ppl in GOV are getting top money from Crypto casinos

I know this is mainly a online casino community but I can walk into my local Admiral / Merkur...24 hours a day 7 days a week now by the way...load up the 'premium play' bag spins and easily do £2,000 through within 90 minutes let alone 90 days!

The staff usually solve all my gambling problems by asking if I want another drink...quite an expensive can of Pepsi

I like how the white paper claims they're still investigating the best way to safely implement debit card play for land based, here is some news you've been able to do it for months now by tapping your card on the ticket payout terminals to generate a cash value ticket of your choosing, and as for the 80/20 current 'limit' on B3 vs Cat C they've already exploited a sort of loophole in that for YEARS by just shoving some 10p play mini terminals in between the 500s that double up as a drink holder shelf

Crazy how you can walk into a pub these days and enjoy bl**dy Fishin' Frenzy with your pint to be honest!

5 seconds spin time? It's clunky enough on some providers at 2.5 seconds, double that will be a nightmare.

Quite sick of the BS meddling to be honest. It's bad enough that auto spins have gone.
battle buyins as opposed to winning the money on slots is getting more and more appealing now eh ;) and then just turnover a 10 or 20 to meet the site requirements :p least that way you can quick spin spam and turbo to your hearts content.
