The Gambling Related Harm All-Party Parliamentary Group whose vice chairman is Iain Duncan Smith has claimed that there is no need for any online casino game to have a bet over £2.

Other measures being considered banning credit cards, reducing VIP and incentives to bet repeatedly.

What does that even mean? No justification? Maybe the justification is that people who are well off aren't interested in lowrolling?

It'd be better if they enforced SOW before you can play at a casino and bet limits be adjusted accordingly but that's too much effort in sure.

I warned this would happen. If labour are elected, this will definitely happen. And that will put all but a very small number of casinos out of business. And then the RTP will plummet to offset the lower stakes.

Please can you explain how you know the labour government will definitely do that? Is this official policy or just your opinion?

Labour introduced the current legislation covering online gambling. The conservative government were the ones that reduced the fobt stakes. The most vocal MP on this particular topic seems to be conservative MP Iain Duncan Smith with prime minister Boris Johnson said to be sympathetic. Vote conservative!!!

Are you also able to explain why lower stakes means lower RTP? Is that opinion or fact based? One should assume that higher stakes = bigger losses and more profit for casinos. If you were trying to reduce the harm of problem gambling that seems like a sensible place to take action.

Might as well just shut the industry down completely at this rate, and we can all find a new hobby. Carpfishingmeister, anyone?

Of course, all the record breaking catches will only be landed by streamers, who will be live from lakes around the country, with affiliate links for tackle... eh, I'll stop now.

After the introduction of the £2 max bet in the bookies, a similar max bet online was always going to be on the cards to be honest. It is only going to be a matter of time.

But as stated, the issue of reversible withdrawals, long wait for withdrawals to be processed etc. is still not being addressed.

A max bet of £2 doesn't affect me but that is not to say that this interference by Government is not needed. One takes responsibility of ones own action after all.

Increasing bet is the way to lose your win back. And of course the people with all the money in the world like to gamble no-limit.
It will put casinos out of business and RTP at 60%.

It is one thing to have max bet set according to balance and welth.
Educate the people and teach them to gamble responsibly.
Lower taxes to reduce harm to players.

But that doesn't mean that potentially harmful activities shouldn't still be regulated, controlled and restricted as required.

You can argue the toss about which areas are most pressing when it comes to online gambling, but the online gambling landscape is already in a better place than it was a couple of years ago.

Well actually it is a Welsh MP called Carolyn Harris who chairs the group who is the voice of anti gambling.

Places like Tombola manage to be viable with an RTP across the board of 98.5% and a max stake of £1.

It is labour policy to reduce stakes. Feel free to Google it :)

That's probably because they are based in Sunderland so everything will be cheap ;) I suspect Videoslots and other employees prefer to sit in Malta than Sunderland.

I hardly play over €2.00 unless balance allows me to do a few naughty spins on 3 or 4 quid and also I do not live in the UK but it will also put a lid on many streamers that target UK audience and play at UK facing casinos, no more 50 quid spins...Win Win

Boringly I made a firm prediction on this to happen within the next year a couple of months ago
and would have staked a grand on it to happen, sounds like I will only be able to bet £2 on it now.
On the edge of packing it up all together, way too much shit and the enjoyment has gone now.

The thing is it's very easy to blame 'meddling politicians' and suchlike, but the casinos have to shoulder a large portion of the blame here.

When you've got affiliated streamers like Roshtein playing (alleged.....) £20-£50 spins for hours every day, heavily promoting UK facing casinos, that's the kind of thing that's going to get noticed.

If casinos had just kept quiet, and facilitated high stakes for those who could afford it, without making a big song and dance about it and trying to normalise appallingly reckless gambling through their tame pet streamers, maybe this wouldn't have happened......

Cutting bet sizes wont help addicts or the idea of problem gambling.

I like to think politicians are or at least should be knowledgeable enough to know this.

Changing cost or measures but not negating the means to obtain, has never helped any addict as far as i have seen apart from making them more skint and in example of past policies on addicts more money in the governments pocket in one form or another through medicating problems.

Unfortunately, for lots of perfectly viable reasons medicating problems is much more profitable than cure. Land based casinos are probably driving the politicians decisions more also as its better business for them with punters on site.

Oh, the humanity........

They've already voluntarily withdrawn the £10 ones from sale.
Will they eventually go for the bookies and sportsbook betting that will be the big storm, no way on earth the British punter who likes their annual Grand National bet or an acca on the premier league will stand for that.

I can't imagine traditional forms of betting like that will be affected, because they're not 'repeatable' in a fast timeframe as playing on slots, or FOBTs, or buying scratchcards are.

Exactly right. I said this a year ago and it has come home to roost unfortunately. Also not forgetting the pressure the landbased bookmakers will now be applying to get this reduction to the online world, levelling the playing field.

Yes, because Coral, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power , Jennings and William Hill have no online operations so that makes perfect sense...
