UK General Election - anything but red!

Just catching up with this thread. What a remarkable election it was. I don't think anybody saw a Conservative majority coming. Ed took his eye off the game in Scotland and that, merged with the fear many English voters had about a Labour/SNP coalition, sealed Labour's fate.

I voted Liberal Democrats in our constituency purely because Jenny Willott has been magnificent for us. She goes door-to-door even when not campaigning to see if people have any issues. Which is amazing considering she also attends parliament and has a family. Unfortunately, she lost out to a Labour candidate who only seems concerned with party politics and won't be half as effective as Jenny was locally.

On a national scale, I fear for the next 5 years. A lot of spin has come out of this government and sadly a lot of people have fallen for it. Anyone that has read an independent financial report will know that the deficit is not being cut. It wasn't Labour's mess either. The financial crash would have happened whether it was Labour or Conservatives in. Both parties have bankers as buddies and both parties would have let them get away with it.

The Liberal Democrats ensured that the Tories remained on a leash over the past 5 years. The Human Rights Act has remained in tact and the NHS hasn't been as dismantled as much as the Tories want. That will all change. The Tories have already pushed ahead with plans to scrap The Human Rights Act and introduce the Bill of Rights (can't wait to see what pro-hanging dinosaur psychopath Michael Gove has planned for that) and they are set to privatise even more large chunks of the NHS. Not to mention the plans for welfare cuts. Don't worry though, big businesses will still get their tax breaks and the bankers will still get their bonuses. They're the arse holes that created this whole mess. Meanwhile, we are told sacrifices will have to be made and "we're all in this together" as the MPs dine at their lavish banquets in their tuxedos on gold-plated chairs. Democracy. Ha.

I'm severely disillusioned by politics in my country. I live in Wales where Labour hold a majority of seats but we will still be governed by a Tory party. I think the British people have failed the country just as much as the voting system this time around. Some severely uneducated people using their precious vote in a tactical manner. Classy that. Glad our ancestors sacrificed their lives for our freedom so people could throw votes away bitterly.

The British people have got the government they deserve. Prepare to watch the country become 1980s New York.

That's exactly what they fought for - an individual's right to a vote, and for whomever they want and for whatever reason. I think the majority of 'uneducated people' actually vote for socialism, a doomed and failed ideology which unfortunately the Liebore party (aside from under Blair) have failed to divorce themselves from.

When the dinosaurs and their progeny who still live in the stone ages believing everyone has a right to a subsidized job for life in shipyards, mines or steelworks finally wake up, politics for them may change. We are undercut, the terms of trade have changed - get used to it! You know, those terms of trade that mean you can buy a pair of jeans for £4 and a flat-screen 32" TV for £179..............
