UK Gambling commission to look into £2 stake limit for online slots. Decision within 6 months

At least online you can self-limit on a lot of sites. All the tools are there for the player to bet within their means and keep it fun, and not being able to use a credit card will go a long way also. Personally I think that's enough. A £2 limit will reduce the UK tax revenue, meaning they'll probably increase the tax rate further, at a cost to the end user.

A £2 limit will drive a lot of slot players to offshore unregulated sites and in all intents and purposes destroy the UK marketplace. IMO

I believe we're already seeing the effects of this. The up-tick in Complaints from UK players at Curacao casinos -- for instance -- is a clear indication of what we can expect in the coming months.

If at some point in the near future we hear a proposal from the UK government to block UK citizens from accessing off-shore casino sites we'll know who to thank for that.

That's exactly what will happen. Obviously, the UKGC doesn't feel that players can choose their own wagering limits, and they will do this for them. Yet, I am sure the land based casinos in the UK won't be held to these same standards.

This will just drive that UK traffic to the Caribbean casinos - and Bob's yer uncle.

Im sure 90% of players bet less than £2 ? Or less im completely wrong haha, and them who do more than £2 surley understand and be more weary of dodgy casinos

One thing that comes to my mind, what about inflation, £2 was worth more in 2001 than 2019, so ten years from now £2 could be the same worth as £1 today, would it have to be index linked as effectively each year the real value is reduced?

At some point it would have to go up.

I think a £4 limit online would probably satisfy most players requirements, maybe a system could be added where you have to do a SOW/income check before being able to play routinely at higher amounts.

We could have exclusive high stake casinos or sections within sites for that market, [footballers, millionaires etc..]

I doubt the ukgc would try to bring in stake limits to physical casino's roulette tables, so there would be an inequality here, which would need to be reasoned, justified and logical. Maybe the ease of gambling online is the issue, it takes an effort to dress up and visit a physical casino, it's not so instant and quick as logging on and depositing.

the UK market has already had a lot of casinos pulling out if the ukgc does keep up their short sightedness what’s to say the rest won’t just leave uk market, margins are supposedly tight to start with or so I’ve read,

It won’t effect me as my stake is usually between £0.40- £1.00 but on the occasion when your on a good run session and you want to play at a higher stake all within means hoping for that big hit, it is my choice responsibly playing

What short sightedness are u referring to??you only have to look at the problems people are having from other countries who don’t have the protection the UKGC afford us.
What percentage of players actually go above the £2 mark? I’d say not very many as a whole the majority of those effected by all these restrictions are those who line their pockets from this industry the strongest will survive the big operators.

It’s always only ever guess work without any figures regarding the percentage of people who’d be effected by this, regarding the percentage who play responsibly at or above the £2.00 level should be allowed to its their choice

Obviously being pushed by certain providers getting round the bonus buys bit of an own goal IMHO..

Yup, Blueprint innovative way for that don't help when max bet is on table.

If this small max bet will be introduced, at least it kill board games, if they try to come out with some slots only limits, we might see totally new type of "board games" where pay tables and volatilities are like in slots.

Could be better limits in amounts how much you can lose instead of how many spins you need for that.

I've also been told more than once, by more than one casino, that the high rollers are what allow the casino to operate, and the low rollers alone would not be enough to survive on, and that was before taxation increased and all the other stuff the UKGC has introduced.
I used to think the same as you though, that surely there are loads more low rollers, and they would generate as much or more income than high rollers, but it seems that is not the case.

A £2 spin to some is a lot, to others its nothing. I play at about £1 a spin, sometimes upto £5 when winning or on holiday.

But for someone who enjoys playing and has the means to afford £50 or £100 a spin, a £2 spin just wont be any fun or enjoyment for that person.

It would be like me betting 2p a spin, absolutely no fun at all and I obviously wouldnt do it.

Good. Anything above 2 pound is ridiculous and if you have that much money to waste go to Vegas rather than spinning 10 pound in your underpants at home.

Hopefully this pushes people back to sports betting like good old days

How are people supposed to do that when if you win, or even lose depending on the type of bet, you get limited to pence?

The land based slots industry already has a plethora of "legal" workarounds to sidestep the £2 stake limit.

You can play at £50 a spin in UK arcades today, via the corrupt SG Gaming "Premium Play" and similar wheezes.

No reason to think things will be any different online if stakes are limited. It'll just be clunkier.
